Scammed by lock picking technician. How to get money back?
Title. Gf and I got locked out of our apt as we are moving out, left the keys inside and had an urgent need to keep removing things from the place. I contacted a random website for lock picking technicians. Had phone call and everything, the guy arrived in 20 min. The estimated price we discussed over the phone was $250, which we were ok with, we just needed to get our things out quick. He got up to the door, but long story short he was not able to open the lock. Damaged the door a bit. He got very aggressive and threatened to start drilling the door to open it. We absolutely did not want that so he got even more aggressive and started using racial slurs. We ended up paying him $220 for him to just go away. Nothing was fixed.
Anyways, the question is: how can we get our money back😭. Contact police?
The basis of my question is that since we were essentially extorted for our money should we get police involved? I’m sorry if this all sounds juvenile…I just never expected this to happen.
Additional context in response to a comment: I said the following:
“Yes yes…very poor decisions on my part. Just for some more context - at the same time the guy was demanding money from us, he was holding an electric drill with a metal drill bit attached. Our apartment door is in an enclosed hallway which is a tight spot so all 3 of us were inches away from each other. He was yelling and demanding the money while pointing the drill in our direction while in that enclosed space. We just paid him to avoid escalating the situation”
