HR Conversations

I sit in a corporate team in Bagsvaerd, been in novo last 2 years. To be honest in my career of last 14 years, 4 of which is in DK, I really haven’t approached an “HR” directly for any of my needs or any other topic as such. But now I am about to be a new father in September, and honestly I’m a bit scared of taking parental leave - reason is there was AGAIN a recent change in my management, and a new manager will join Aug 1. This is after 3 changes since layoffs where me and my team have moved departments, restructured etc. I am a non-EU.

Now the manager I spent effort in building a connection is also changing roles, I had informed her about September. Now, the new incoming manager is said to have good leadership skills in Novo, but I won’t have time to build a connection with her, but I have to inform her also.

Question: Where does the HR come into this? And will it be the HRBP when we say HR? And are there any confidentiality setups where I can be 100% sure they won’t discuss my situation with the SVP of area in context of “hey we can reduce a position because anyway the new manager will redesign this small team”. In reality, I am important to my stakeholder and I have a small but not so well functioning team due to them being put together accidentally during layoffs.

So can I trust the HRBP? Or should I not disclose any of my plans to her?

Danes about other Asians

Dear All, I am thinking around the recent focus on immigration from MENAPT countries, but that also leads to a thought which I just like to explore in a good way - what do the Danes think about people from other countries, who might be very educated, working ag really good positions, well travelled, learning and loving the Danish ways of life, respecting the Danish culture, eagerly learning to speaking Danish etc. I’m referring to Indians, Nepalese etc who “look similar” to MENAPT population but maybe starkly different. Also, to be clear, its not at all to mean that MENAPT population is a generalization towards immigration problems, im just going by recent focus on the topic in EU and in DK. So very curious to know if a general Dane can differentiate an Indian for eg, and what are the general views of a Dane about them :)

Paternity and Parental Leave

Expecting a baby in Oct end, already told my Danish manager who’s been in novo for 20 years and is actually very nice to talk to. He’s been nice about the news. Few pointers to consider before my questions.

  1. I am a manager myself, with 15 years of work experience and 1.5 year in Novo.

  2. I have been moved to his team along with my team, last year, since then we have been in stabilization mode.

  3. My team of 5 doesn’t know yet, planning to tell them after summers

  4. Havent told anything to the HR yet.

Questions:

  1. When is the time usually to announce to the team?

  2. I have read the rules and it says Father needs to inform at least 4 weeks in advance. Inform who, the HR or manager?

  3. Who can help me UNBIASEDLY plan my Paternity and Parental leave as a father so I can get maximum time off with my child and can be satisfied I used all combinations properly? Is it the HR I depend on? Or is there a special team/process?

Thanks in advance 🙏 I am so glad and can’t believe we have this community!

600k in 4 years

Hi All,

When we moved to DK 4 years ago from outside EU I started on a salary of 55k per month. Due to some career moves (which also included a layoff and then a better job), I am now earning 82k pm.

My wife started working after 1 year of moving, and she started at 55k as well and now earns around 70k pm.

We only rent, live in Aarhus, have a 5 year old now, and a new baby on the way in few months, and we have managed to accumulate 600k in liquid saving and 180k worth in Aktiesparekonto in Nordnet.

My question:

  1. Is 600k in 4 years good or less? We own 2 used cars and changed one leased car earlier. That’s all the assets, no home owned yet.

  2. I feel I am wasting money keeping 600k in the bank and not actively investing. I also am planning to invest in Altiesparekonto of my wife - we haven’t exhausted that yet. But is there any other investment advice I should follow, to keep it simple but super effective in growing my money, if I were to operate like a smart Dane who would know tradition investing options in Denmark?

  3. I am using Nordnet, and our primary bank is Danske Bank. Is there any savings accounts/ Fixed Deposits / other accounts which are beneficial for locking money while earning good interest? Back in my home country for eg,we have many such bank deposits which give 7-8% interest on safe side.
