Uj/ I just found a random tweet using Beat of all things as an example of how Sonic's muzzle should be, the Mega Man 11 design looks perfectly normal despite the beak curve supposedly being wrong.
This item right here is patient zero for the slow death of Sonic being the wind. This item is what made people think it was ok to dare to associate Sonic with lightning. This game is an absolute disgrace to the franchise and I fucking hate it, this is where Sonic's decline began, not the jump to 3D,not 06, not Boom, not Forces, but Sonic 3 and Knuckles. This seemingly small inclusion began the agonising degradation of Sonic's brand integrity along with priming fans to be complacent about Sonic being associated with lightning in any capacity.
Sonic 3 and Knuckles' decision to include this power up just shows that this game fundamentally misunderstands Sonic as a work of art, this item should have been the wind shield instead if the developers truly cared about Sonic but no they didn't do that, because they evidently didn't give a single flying fuck about Sonic when they included this item. This then snowballed for the decades to come as Sonic started to become more and more associated with lightning because of the movies, all because Jeff Fowler played Sonic 3 and Knuckles as a kid and saw the electric shield so he thought it was ok to give Sonic lightning powers, he was very wrong and I hate him for being a dumb child who had no care for what Sonic was supposed to represent.
It is because of this that I believe Sonic 3 and Knuckles is the worst Sonic game of all the time, this game completely shits on the franchise by giving Sonic access to the electric shield and erasing his true identity as the wind, since many people deluded themselves into believing this joke of a game is actually the best Sonic game this has caused the game to be extremely impactful on the franchise, I wish this game never existed because if it didn't Sonic would never be associated with lightning because of the electric shield and Sonic's brand integrity wouldn't be in complete and utter shambles.
To finish off I just want to say that I believe anyone who defends associating Sonic with lightning is a bad person, this is because it shows that you do not care about thematic value in the media you consume and are more than happy to see the identity of this once great franchise get drained away just to look cool. You can try and defend it however you want but all it shows that you are a slop eater who wants to defend a corporation in the name of positivity. I am right because I am, you are wrong because you defend a piece of shit video game that inflected a massive slow burn on the artistic integrity of this franchise and has now completely destroyed any traces of it, fuck you and I hope you struggle to go to sleep.
Bosses that don't die in 20 seconds??? Level gimmicks that slow the pace down??? PLATFORMING SECTIONS???? THIS IS GAME IS UNPLAYABLE!!! /Hj
I decided to see how this community would create a 2D Sonic games tier list since I feel like discussing the entire lineage of 2D Sonic isn't that common these days and is an interesting given how many styles of 2D Sonic there are despite the majority of them being based on the foundation introduced in Sonic 1.
Basically the rules are simple, comment what tiers you'd place the games in the currently ranking section and whichever placements for each game is the most common determines where the game will be placed. Any mentions of games in the to be ranked section obviously won't count.
