What am I? Volunteered in burro tails.
Its definitely not burro tails...but what is it?

I'm not sure what they all are, but I love them.
And the kids love her.
The Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum had a wonderful lecture today on "How Quilts Communicate". I've been looking forward to it since January and it didn't disappoint. The latest exhibit was very nice as well - I feel that some of their previous exhibits had higher quality and interesting and versatile work, but some of the pieces in this one spoke to me as well. Enjoy!
The summer of greenhouse kitties is coming to an end....both litters Beans, Toast, Icarus, Oatmeal, Allspice and Cali all found homes. Just one kitty ,Pepper, is so feral he's attacked and escaped all three times, so he's just going to live here now with the outside colony of ferals. They're all black and orange and white so we're calling them our Halloween crew.
Pepper will get trapped and fixed when he's a little older, and any tips for catching the last momma (Spooky kitty, the black and white who looks like she has a day of the dead skull mask on) is appreciated. She's so smart she knows how to eat the sardines out of the trap without tripping it. This summer was fun, but we really don't want anymore kittens ๐
Icarus, Beans and Toast are all doing great- all vaxed and spayed/neutered. Icarus goes to a new home Friday, and I'm thinking Beans and Toast will be big enough to leave the greenhouse then. Still trying to catch their momma (Spooky Kitty) to get her fixed. Humane society TNR took care of them all, but did some SERIOUS ear 'tipping'. Like....half of Lady Bean's ear is gone now.
There are also four other kittens now too...their momma just got fixed, but they're still too little. Working on socializing them. Oatmeal (siamese) , Spicy (dilute tabico), Pepper (tuxie) and Cali (calico).
And a black cat has shown up. So that's four adult cats and 6 kittens.
Our humane society is full so....I guess all these cats live here now? Luckily we have six acres. And acre for each cat?
The only downside is my greenhouse smells like catssh*t now though...
Love the Raisonne - decided to do a little doodle, first time drawing Sailor Moon in almost 15 years. Not great, not horrible, but the new art book reminded me of just how much I love Naoko Takeuchi's art.
We went into the greenhouse and found two more babies! We're calling them Beans and Toast! No sign of momma, but we're leaving them in the greenhouse just in case and only bringing them in at night if it gets too cold. Also feeding every 4 hours just in case mom isn't coming by.
The plan is that they'll be outside kitties...we already have three inside. ๐ The full tabby is Beans, the white and tabby is Toast! Hopefully that's all...we're a Brady Bunch sized cat house now.
Will also be on the lookout for adult cats we may need to humanely trap and get neutered/spayed.
Update: Our local shelter is full after taking in 40 kittens, but we'll be looking for homes for beans and toast after they are neutered/spayed. Their being permanent outside kitties is a last resort - but they'd still have vet checkups, shelter, socialization, ect. Again the worse case scenario here is still better than being feral and unneutered, which is where they be without us right now.
They're so cute though, I can't imagine they wouldn't get a home.
I was watering the plants in our greenhouse this afternoon, and I just so happened to turn slightly to the door and saw something rush in and hide behind some pots. My first thought was actually "is that a guinea pig?" before I realized that we don't have any neighbors and guinea pigs aren't native here. ๐ He is very quiet, snuggly, and loves my husband more than me already. Since he basically fell out of the sky, husband is thinking of naming him Icarus. He goes to the vet tomorrow.
Our other three cats are curious - except for 18 year old Roosevelt, who is not pleased. ๐
How other schools in the 21st century are approaching things like pep rallies, senior picnics/activities, etc? My school seems stuck in 1998 and thinks our kids actually care about these things. Participation is LOW - kids dont dress up for homecoming week (the themes are lame and - they don't care), half of the 1500 students are sitting during the pep rally (cause its lame and - they don't care) and many of the seniors are frustrated that they're required to participate in the cliche graduation/spirit week events because- yes, its lame and they don't care. But our admin and a certain group of teachers are still pushing for these events - disrupting class and asking more of teachers in the process.
Do your kids care about these things? How are you events themed that help with that? What are you doing instead?
