A bug’s life
So legitimate question here. What is the food supply for all those annoying flies and mosquitoes, especially up on the scrubby pine zone (think the ridgeline area of Carrigan where there are no other plants than those trees)?
There were quite a few dogs on the trail. Is it just all the dog poop? There didn’t seem to be enough other squirrels or chipmunks or other animals in those areas. Serious answers only.

Unexpected poop in my basement
Second batch of this that I've found in the last week in two different areas of our basement in the burbs of Boston.
Both had the white section, which reminds me of bird droppings. Some portions appeared slightly "stringy". def not uniform as you can see. Sorry, didn't have a banana handy, so my finger for scale. About 2-3" long.
Never seen this in my house before. Any ideas, folks?
