Yard Debris Removal Post-Storm

Hi everyone, first storm since moving to Mobile. I’ve got 20+ bags of yard debris/waste & my normal collection isn’t until the 21st. Does the city do extra collection after storms? Or is there a place I can haul it? Or do I just wait? Appreciate the help & hope everyone is well!

5th gen Timing Chain

Posting because I had a very hard time finding info about doing a timing chain on a 5th Gen 4Runner.

My 2010 Limited with 230,000 miles was throwing codes for retarded timing on the passenger side exhaust camshaft. Along with a VVT solenoid needing replaced, the timing marks were off, indicating a worn chain.

Local dealerships quoted me many thousands of dollars for this job. The book calls for pulling the engine entirely or dropping the front running gear in order to get the upper half of the oil sump off before taking the timing cover off.

I got around this by removing all parts of the intake, the valve covers, radiator fan, all accessories, etc. I then jacked up the engine by the transmission bell housing, removed the motor mounts, & replaced them with 4x4s. This gave me enough room to drop the sump.

Scraping the old RTV off the mating surface between the block and oil sump was a pain, but doable. As was putting new RTV on. Get yourself a few scrapers of different lengths.

I used the Toyota three bond; one 4oz tube was plenty for the timing cover & sump halves.

Took about 30 hours with 2 guys working. Definitely some places to cut that time down: don’t forget to remove the valve covers before jacking the engine up & realize you need the extra space & spend time lowering the engine again, don’t forget there’s a bracket on the backside of the alternator & spend 20 minutes trying to figure out why it won’t move, etc.

I changed the oil pump gears & water pump while I was in there. I also replaced every gasket/o-ring; they were more plastic than rubber. Take some time with your local parts desk to find all those; I missed a couple using online diagrams & had to source from an o-ring kit that a neighbor had.

Happy to answer any questions & good luck to anyone else who does this job.
