My special interest has to do with symbols, text, maps, and literature. I've recently understood that I have a form of hyperlexia, which some researchers believe is a kind of OCD for symbols of meaning and text.

I sometimes spend hours upon hours studying languages, or drawing maps. This sometimes is detrimental to my health, and I find it very difficult to stop. It's been an obsession my whole life.

While it might sound useful, often fall down a very specific rabbit hole and study very specific etymology. Often not doing tasks I ought to do for my actual studies. I find that this is becoming more and more challenging as I get older.

How can I manage my special interests? I have a lot of shame attached to it as well, which I'm trying to unlearn.
