Title: Is upgrading from i5-13400 to Ryzen 7 7800X3D worth it for competitive FPS games? (RX 6800 build)

Hi all, looking for advice before I spend money.

My current PC (built May 2023):

  • CPU: Intel i5-13400
  • GPU: AMD RX 6800 16GB
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 (2x16GB)
  • Motherboard: MSI B660-series (DDR4)
  • Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD
  • PSU: MSI 750W
  • Cooler: Corsair liquid cooler
  • Case: Corsair 220T

What I mainly play: multiplayer FPS shooters. I want the highest fps and best 1% lows I can get.

What I’m considering:
Keep the RX 6800, PSU, case, and SSD, and replace the CPU, motherboard, and RAM with:

  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • A B650 board (e.g. MSI PRO B650M-P)
  • DDR5 (16GB to start, or 32GB DDR5-6000)

I’d sell my old CPU, board, and DDR4 to offset the cost.

My questions:

  1. Is this a futureproof upgrade for competitive FPS games?
  2. Is the 7800X3D worth it over the cheaper Ryzen 5 7500X3D for these games?
  3. Should I wait for DDR5 prices to drop, or is 16GB DDR5 fine for now?
  4. Would I be better off keeping everything, or spending on a different part instead (e.g. a new GPU)?
  5. Any compatibility issues I should know about (cooler bracket, BIOS version, etc.)?

Thanks for any advice!
