Should I replace my ASRock X870 Steel Legend WiFi?

I built my new PC on July 14 with the following specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Motherboard: ASRock X870 Steel Legend WiFi
GPU: ASRock Radeon RX 9070 XT Steel Legend
RAM: 32GB (2×16GB) G.Skill DDR5-6000 CL30

Until a fellow Redditor recently pointed me to the reports about ASRock X870 boards allegedly killing 9800X3D CPUs, I had absolutely no idea this issue existed.

I had been running the system on the factory BIOS 3.16 since I built it. After finding out about the reports, I updated to BIOS 4.43 yesterday.

The PC has been completely stable so far:
No crashes or BSODs
No boot issues
No random restarts
0 WHEA-Logger errors
EXPO enabled at 6000 MT/s
SoC voltage is around 1.19V in HWiNFO

I’ve played multiple games and even built shaders in The Last of Us Part I and Hogwarts Legacy without any issues..Even though everything appears to be working perfectly should I replace the motherboard while it’s still new, or would you continue using it now that it’s on BIOS 4.43?

Update: Unfortunately, something happened. maybe sooner than expected. The system suddenly refused to boot. All fans and RGB turn on, but there’s no display and the motherboard gets stuck on the CPU debug LED. I tried power cycling, checking connections and the usual basic troubleshooting, but no luck. The system was completely stable until this happened. I’m taking the motherboard and CPU to the retailer for testing. What a MESS! My complete setup is merely 20 days old. Recent BIOS update might have done something?

Low FPS on Ryzen 7 9800X3D + Fabric 26.2 CPU hitting 100% and 100W on Minecraft. Need help optimizing my modlist

Hey everyone,

I recently built a new PC with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, but I'm having massive performance and optimization issues on Minecraft Java.

When running pure Vanilla, I get around 300 FPS. If I run only Iris + Sodium, it jumps to around 800 FPS, which proves the CPU is healthy. However, as soon as I load my full custom utility/performance modpack, my FPS drops drastically down to single digits (around 3-4 FPS), while my CPU usage spikes to 100% and draws over 100W!

Even when it stabilizes, it hovers around 450 FPS max, while I see people getting 1000+ FPS easily with this exact same CPU. It feels like there is a massive thread loop conflict going on.

Can someone help me optimize my custom modpack?

My Specs:
CPU**:** AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
RAM 32GB
GPU: 2070 super

Ryzen 7 5800X3D idles at 65–70°C and ~30–35W package power — Ryzen 5 3600 was much cooler

Hi everyone,
I recently upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
Since installing the 5800X3D, I’ve been having a strange issue with idle temperatures and power consumption.
At completely idle in Windows:
CPU usage: around 1–3%
CPU package power: around 30–35W
CPU temperature: around 65–70°C
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B550-PLUS
OS: Windows 11
With my previous Ryzen 5 3600, idle temperatures were significantly lower under the same general conditions.
I’ve already tried pretty much all the usual troubleshooting:
Reapplied the thermal paste.
Reseated the CPU/cooler.
Checked the cooler mounting.
Checked CPU fan operation.
Tried different PBO settings.
Tried voltage/PBO adjustments.
Checked Windows power settings.
AMD Ryzen Balanced power plan is enabled.
Checked CPU usage and background processes.
Checked C-state behavior in BIOS.
BIOS has been configured/updated for the 5800X3D.
Despite all of this, the CPU still sits around 65–70°C at idle while consuming roughly 30–35W.
The strange part is that the CPU usage is only around 1–3%, so I’m not seeing an obvious process constantly loading the CPU.
At this point I’m wondering if this could be related to BIOS/AGESA, chipset drivers, C-state behavior, or some kind of power-management issue with the 5800X3D.
Has anyone experienced something similar with a 5800X3D on an ASUS B550 motherboard?
What would you check next? I’m especially interested in anything related to C-states, BIOS settings, chipset drivers, or why the package power could remain around 30–35W at idle.

My water cooling system looks like this: water cooling but its from 2019

Ryzen 5000 series SOC voltage (Tip)

I've noticed that my SOC power was quite high; peaking to 30w for a 5950x. In idle state the thing would be constant at 65 to 70 degrees. I had no clue what was going on, but it seems that the motherboard when selecting XMP, is raising the voltages for SOC to a unusual and quite high 1.175v - i've lowered this to now 1V, perfectly stable at at most 18 watts when busy, idle 15. Temps below 45 now and in load at max 75W at 144W. cores do boost more or longer consistent.

So if you have a unusual high idle temp, check your SOC power consumption. It should be around, 15W and not 25+ which often is caused by a higher SOC voltage because you selected, XMP.

Help needed with buying a new stick of DDR5 Ram

I had built and bought a PC on June 27th of this year, and I had bought it with a single stick of 16 GB DDR5 Ram (16 x 1) and the exact model is the TeamGroup TForce Delta RGB 16 GB DDR5 CL38 Ram (and my mobo is the MSI B850M Gaming Wifi motherboard), I want to buy another stick of that exact same ram in around September or October, but Google is telling me it's going to be risky and I should've bought it in a kit instead, I don't want to sell my RAM and neither do I want to downgrade to an AM4 system. Will it be safe if I buy that exact same ram stick in around September or October. Please help me.

Mobo: MSI B850M Gaming WiFi Motherboard

Cpu: Ryzen 5 7600x

Ram: TeamGroup TForce Delta RGB 16 GB DDR5 CL38 Ram

9950x3D Dual CCD in CPU/Multi-Core Gaming

I play heavily CPU bounded games like Cities Skylines which should in theory benefit from the 9950's additional cores, but I'm wondering if this is true due to the V-cache allocation. Would I see near identical performance to a 9800x3D even in such CPU heavy and multi-core capable games?

From 5800X3D to 7600X3D worth?

Basically i went from 5600X to 5800X3D thinking ill skip am5..i paid 500 CAD for new cpu and 200 CAD for 16gb of ddr4 ram to bring total to 32gb. It works great and am happy with performance. Only issue is much higher temp than i used to for obvious reasons but well below throttle.

Total cost $700 CAD.

Now i recently saw a bundle for $900 CAD it had 32gb ddr5 teamforce, 7600X3D and b650 eagle?

I can still return am4 ram and cpu for full refund from Amazon.

So now, is this worth the $200 extra? I know i will likely get 5-10c cooler but is that worth it?

I will likely not upgrade again for at least 3-4 years

I have 5070ti for ref.

I guess i just need second take and some convincing either way lol

Edit - Update thanks all for sharing your opinions! I read/watch some more vids and i actually tried to return the cpu and Amazon decided to refund 20% if i kept it so ill do that instead lol. Since no real performance difference and i keep kinda dread spending time installing and tweaking fan curve, co etc. again

Ryzen 7 AI 350 Performance doubts

So i recently upgraded from my victus which has a Ryzen 5 5600H with RTX3050 to an omen with Ryzen 7 AI 350 WITH RTX 5060. On paper and benchmarks the 350 AI beats the 5600H at everything however I don't see any fps improvement in cpu bound games. In valorant at low settings my fps goes between 180-300 but I expected more like my previous 5600H gave out the similar performance. Same thing with Fortnite performance mode I get around 150-200 in battle royale that's like 20 fps more than what my old processor gave. On gpu bound games no doubt I see a huge improvement ofc but cpu performance does not seem really good comparatively any other people having the same cpu can share any benchmarks? Even on yt I don't see any gameplay with fps counters with this omen. And I also checked that my power plan is set to performance and omen hub mode is set to unleashed and there's absolutely no throttling the cpu never crosses 75C . Is there anything I am missing please help me out ?

5600x3d for 170 or 5800x3d for 300?

I was planning on upgrading my CPU to a 5800 X 3-D but I just saw that the 5603X 3-D is on sale for 170. Which one do you think I should go for coming from a 5600x

Confirmed Ryzen 7 5700x compatible with Omen 25L (89EB)

Hello, I just wanted to throw this out there incase anyone else has the same thoughts I had when upgrading my CPU in my Omen 25L.

The HP website for compatible CPU’s with the 89EB motherboard does not explicitly state the Ryzen 7 5700X. But I upgraded it myself and it works well.

I had troubles with research prior, hopefully this helps someone in the future!

5800X3D performance lacking

Edit: I decided to just randomly restart again since making the post, and now performance is improved somehow. It's just about 98% of where the 5600X was. CPU-Z went up to 562 and 6230. Undervolt is still in place. Is this just the thermal pad breaking in? I guess I'm stuck monitoring how things go over time.

Disclaimer: Installed a new 5800x3d with a carbice carbon nanotube thermal pad, which I know runs hot at first, and my driver situation is questionable. I'm on windows 10. Fan curves aren't a problem. Read on for details.

I had a 5600X and RTX 3080 10GB. Today I installed a 5070ti and 5800x3d. I installed the 5070ti first and it was great, everything worked from the start and performance was 50%+ in unigine heaven, superposition, and metro exodus benchmark. Then I updated my gigabyte x470's bios from F62 to F66a, installed the 5800x3d, updated chipset driver from amd's site, and loaded the xmp profile for 3600MHz RAM in bios. Performance is way lower than I was told to expect. the benchmarks I mentioned are all worse than on the 5600X (except for total war pharaoh, the extra cores helped it rise from 57fps to 74fps, but that's a given). I know this cpu is a bit slower than the 5600x, but my 1% lows are worse on the 5800x3d and I thought if nothing else, it's supposed to help there.

And then there's the temperature. With the case open, on an aftermarket air cooler, the 5600x was 42 idle and hit 62 under load, and I'm pretty sure cpu stress tests put it at 70. The 5800x3d was 20 degrees hotter in those situations out of the box. The most recent thing I did was an undervolt of -30mv in PBO2 tuner, and that seemed to get temps about 10 degrees cooler, but the undervolt still reduces fps so thermal throttling isn't what's hurting game performance vs the 5600x.

The other thing is that my cpu benchmarks seem to be a lot lower than what's listed online. CPU-Z has my single thread at 510 and multithread at 6139, vs 601 and 6360 mentioned here. My Cinebench 24 is 758 vs this guy's 804 or even this guy complaining about 800 at the same undervolt.

I think my drivers and/or RAM might be an issue. When I installed the cpu, Heaven gave 185fps while the 5600x gave 200fps. Then I installed a recommended chipset driver from gigabyte app center and got 197fps. Then I went to BIOS and loaded the XMP profile to get 3600MHz RAM and Heaven gave 174. Since then, I downloaded the newest driver from AMD and undervolted the cpu and I'm still stuck in the low 170s. I noticed that windows device manager lists my cpu driver as "Driver Version: 10.0.19041.6093, Driver Provider: Microsoft". This is both before and after I installed drivers directly from AMD's site, which said it was updating me to "Chipset Drivers 8.08.12.551". When I redownloaded the installer and clicked on it, it said I already had this driver installed so I canceled it. So I'm not sure what to trust or if there's a conflict there. RAM speed is definitely 3600 according to task manager, Gigabyte App Center, and Ryzen Master.

Does this make sense to anybody? Are there better ways to diagnose this? I hope I didn't pay 350 to get worse performance in everything except total war. I'd have gotten the 5800X instead.

Amd Experience

I know this isn’t the usual Tips and info post but I just have to know about everyone else’s experiences if I’m doing something right or are people just tweaking the Fluff out there cards?

Specs
Ryzen 7 7800x3D
Klevv Cras V 32gb
MSI MAG A850GL
Xfx Mercury Oc Rx Radeon 9070xt
Windows 11 Home

I remember when I was building the pc (FIRST TIME BUILDER) I kept getting Reddit thread notifications about driver time outs and black screens and crashing bugs glitches EVERYTHING. And I keep hearing this thing people say “it’s the amd experience”

Now I had a gaming laptop back in 2020 it was a intel
8700H (I think) something like that and a GTX 1060(6gb)
So I won’t say I’m seasoned in Nvidia and Amd experiences I’ve experienced Nvidia card which it had its moments too with drivers but mostly was overall a good fluffing experience while it lasted ofc and this now would be my first FULL AMD PC.

I’ll be frank sometimes I do watch over it I’m a bit sensitive to see if it has issues I have tweaked a few setting on my cpu in bios and I have a OC on my GPU that I did from the adrenaline software itself. I have experienced two driver time outs in the two weeks I have been using the GPU. And ALL OF IT WAS IN FORTNITE. It seemed to happen every time I run Msi afterburner for stats and discord (what I thought at first). I checked the adrenaline app I had a chipset driver to update I DID IT and after that I did everything as normal no crashes after that😂 Now I run everything high whoever said no ray tracing for AMD boi I have that shit in high presets with Frame Gen on quality getting over 70fps in cyberpunk ultra preset while streaming.

Now maybe I missed out something but I’ve tested maybe around 15 games so far and I haven’t had any issues with my card my games are so so smooth compared to my old laptop this thing is night and day and I’m using a OLED MONITOR like I saw someone say something about Amd and oleds I have the latest version I think it’s 26.7.1? I’ll have to check but yeah no issues from me at all so what’s wrong with other people cards?
