Inverted Build! Look and feel!

Build Specs:
Board: Keychron Q2
Plate: Stock steel plate
Gaskets: Stock top and bottom gaskets
Stabilizers: Stock stabilizers (for now)
Switches: Gateron Night Breeze v2 switches
Keycaps: Sumsgn Translucent SA Yellow white double shot keycaps

Mods:
• Force Break—painters tape squares. 4 layers blue painters tape
• Lube/tune stabilizers
• Removed all case foam

It is complete! The concept for this build is to build an inverse design to the NovelKeys_ NK87 I posted before on this sub. The NK87 build is low pitched and thocky. Akko Rosewoods, carbon fiber plate, top mount, and all the foam that fits. It offers ZERO flex. Though it isn’t silent, it is really great for office use.

SOOOO…This build is inspired to be as opposite as possible. Bouncy gaskets, high pitched, clacky, and the opposite color scheme as the NK87 previously mentioned. I am super happy with the results. I thought I would be unhappy with the build's yellows and blues not being the same hue, but I am surprisingly satisfied with the way they are different in appeal. This build is more of a gold and metallic blue build compared to the matte school bus yellow and navy blue keycaps.

I think there is some room for improvement on the board. I’m almost dialed in with the Mods I did already. I am considering using a bronze or aluminum plate if I can get my hands on them. I am not sure where I go from here besides adding a copper/steel/bronze weight on the back of the keyboard. I fear this is not that easy to do, but I would like to add about 2-3lbs of weight to the board. If I add lead tape in side, it’ll probably lower the pitch. I also can’t add enough weight with tape.

I am planning to switch to the highest pitched clackiest tactile switches around. It would complete the inversion! Night Breezes were already on hand, so I figured I would do some research on these tactile.

If you have any ideas, hit me up. I’m just now getting into modding rather than building too stock. I am all ears for suggestions.

Peace!

Knock, Knock…

This dude was tapping on my basement door’s window. Holy shit balls it spooked me for a second. Haha. This is a European Hornet. They are more on team fuck wasps than you might assume. They are predatory and eat late pests, including yellow jackets! So go easy on the dude.

Spent some time watching though. It was wild to look at an insect that is 3 inches long. The level of detail that you easily see is really fascinating.

Also, killed the lights and that dude scrammed. I know the look like em, but remember they are an ally.

Building an opposite board to the NK87 yellow aluminum

In progress build is starting to come together!

I am building an inversion build to my yellow NK87 aluminum edition which has blue key caps and a no gasket set up with amko rosewood switches. This thing is super dry and muted. A low pitch thock master. Oh yeah, I have it on a carbon fiber plate.

To oppose it, I’ve gotten a blue Keychron q2 barebones that i’ll put yellow key caps on. I’ll use the night breeze v2 switches from gateron. I’m going to remove all Case foam and do a tape mod and force break mod to get any ping out of it. I know this isn’t a one for one form layout, but I read that the Q3 from Keychron doesn’t have very good gasket response. My goal is to make this as bouncy as possible because the NK87 has absolutely no movement. Just noticed that the switches I got are on brand for this build.

Super excited to wrap this up tomorrow. Check out the switches and how they look with the case!

I posted a build in this chassis a week or two ago. Since that post I haven’t been super happy with the color combo. Specifically, the way the off white of the previous keycaps clashed with the ice white of chassis. I do think, however, I’ve found the perfect combo!

These Dasher MT3s have been a total game changer for the set up here. They have a notably satisfying feeling in combination with the Baby Kangaroo switches. For some reason the weight and tactile bump of these switches are amplified just enough through the keycaps to offer a unique experience. I wonder if it’s the profile or thick double shot ABS that does it. Probably a bit of both.

I digress. This build is ever evolving. Gonna pull it apart with the spudgers again soon and try to add more weight. Peace y’all!

Durock v3 plate mount stabilizers lubed

MODS: Added plate foam sheet, added approx 250grams of lead tape to the cases, and Tempest mod with 3 layers.

Next mods:
I really want to add 250 more grams of weight internally with more lead tape. I know it sounds silly, but it is incredibly satisfying to have this be as heavy as possible. I am actually considering making or ordering brass or stainless plate to mount with glue(yeah?) to the bottom of the board.

Offer any other mod ideas in the comments!

Cheers,
