What will happen if the republicans rig the voting machines?

Is there any plan in place to hand recount all the votes? I am worried that people either don’t know or don’t care about their capability and intention to access and manipulate voting machines, and I’m worried that the Democratic Party would rather lose the election than admit that it was compromised. I hope I’m totally wrong and concerned about nothing, but I also hope there’s some sort of contingency in place if not

Could a plant be modified to remove the allergenic proteins from its pollen?

I’m wondering if Ambrosia trifida aka Giant Ragweed could be bred or genetically modified to remove the proteins in its pollen that are responsible for ragweed allergy. Or perhaps to not produce pollen, though that may hinder further breeding efforts. Would it be as simple as identifying one of the genes necessary for the production of that protein, and using crispr to remove that gene? I am interested in Ragweed as a potential seed and biomass crop

Mystery; Cat with sudden appetite loss and lethargy, but with good blood work, no blockages, and good looking x-ray?

Starting 2 days ago he lost his appetite and wouldn’t move around much. Vet said he is underweight by 1-2 pounds (two years old and about 7 pounds,) as well as dehydrated, potentially chronically. Also a mild fever. The past few night have been some of the warmest of the year, and he is very fluffy, but we have moderate air conditioning. Also poor air quality, though it was a lot worse 1-2 weeks ago. Also, he may have thrown up a couple times 2 days ago. I’ve gotten him to eat some watery wet food, and he’s peed once or twice. Could lily poisoning present with good blood work? Or any disease? Thank you so much for reading this

Bromine-containing phytochemistry in Corallorhiza species?

Looking on LOTUS, it looks like the parasitic plants in the orchid genus Corallorhiza contain many bromine and chlorine containing molecules. Is this an error in the data source? It seems like a very rare thing for plants to produce

Can I still sow Black Eyed Susan seeds?

Will Rudbeckia hirta germinate and establish strong enough plants to come back next year if I sow them now and keep them watered? And does anyone have an opinion on starting them from plugs/starter plants? Minnesota, 5a

Aunt Lucy - keep or remove?

I have a bunch of Ellisia nyctelea that I assumed was a non-native for some reason; it wasn’t until I saw a bunch of insects where I just pulled some up that I double checked. Even though it’s very prolific in this section of garden, apparently it’s not quite as common elsewhere. Does anyone know anything about this plant?

You ever notice how fascist our native plant discussions can sound out of context?

Imagine someone heard you say, “don’t pollute the local gene pool with foreign genetics, the unique and advantageous genetic qualities of the existing community need to be preserved,” I hope they’d know it’s about local ecotype native plants and cultivars instead of people

What are the ethics of growing a 20 ft tall Giant Ragweed?

Sure, everyone in a 10 mile radius of it would probably get hayfever, but it’s native which would make it a net positive right?
