• Car Wash was one of several films with a predominantly black cast released during the 1970s. The theme song, also titled Car Wash, was the first single by Rose Royce, and was written by the film's musical score composer, Norman Whitfield, who also produced the album. It would prove to be their biggest hit, and the film soundtrack their biggest selling album. A second hit from that album, I Want to Get Next to You, peaked at #10. Those would be their only Top 20 hits on the Hot 100, but they had five additional Top 10 hits on the R&B chart. Those cars might never seem to stop coming, but many of you saw the elimination of this song coming.
• As noted in an earlier elimination, The Jackson 5 had their most successful run of hits in 1970, which included four #1s. The second of these was the lead single and title track of their second album, ABC. It was written by a team of Motown songwriters known as 'The Corporation'. It received a Grammy nomination, and in 2016 was inducted into the Grammy hall of fame. The song compares learning about love to learning the alphabet, numbers, or music, but to keep standing in this game requires more than A, B, C, 1, 2, 3, do, re, mi, and voters have decided they have nothing more to learn from this song.

• Hooked on a Feeling was written by Mark James in 1968, at about the same time as he wrote Suspicious Minds which became a hit for Elvis Presley. The first hit version of the song was by B.J. Thomas, reaching #5 in early 1969, but the version most people remember is the #1 hit by Blue Swede, notable for the ooga chaka chant heard during the song. Their recording seemed destined for obscurity until its appearance in movies and TV shows such as Reservoir Dogs, Ally McBeal, and Guardians of the Galaxy made it a cultural icon. If you're hooked on a feeling that you're in love with this song, sorry but it's time for it to ooga chaka out of here.
• Most hits by Stevie Wonder in the 1960s portrayed a wholesome image crafted by Motown records, and by the 1970s he was determined to break out of that image and write songs that were social commentaries. One example of this is his 1974 #1 hit You Haven't Done Nothin', meant as a jab at US President Richard Nixon, who resigned two days after it was released. It includes backing vocals by the Jackson 5, but some say it sounds a bit too similar to his earlier hit Superstition. Though it had its day, the voters have said they're sick and tired of hearing this song.

• Crocodile Rock was a song that Elton John and lyricist Bernie Taupin created just for fun in the summer of 1972. Meant as an homage to early rock-and-roll, John said it was inspired by the Australian hit Eagle Rock by Daddy Cool, and includes a lyrical reference to Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and His Comets. The falsetto interlude sounded similar enough to a riff from Speedy Gonzales (famously by Pat Boone) that it drew a lawsuit, which was settled for undisclosed terms. The song may have known a better time, but the Crocodile Rock didn't last and I guess it never will.
• Paul McCartney would ultimately have nine #1 hits, excluding his work with The Beatles, but the exact artist name they were billed under varied. The only one listed as by Paul & Linda McCartney was the first, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey. The lyrics refer to McCartney's uncle, Albert Kendall, and to Admiral William "Bull" Halsey, the former an apology for his generation and the latter as someone to ignore. 'Hands across the water' refers to Paul and Linda being British and American respectively. Now there's no one left at home to vouch for this song, but if anything should happen we'll be sure to give a ring.

• If you've ever had a regular hangover, you probably wanted to get over it as soon as you could, but it's different when it's a Love Hangover, one that you don't want to get over, that you don't want a cure for. That's the message of this song, and two different versions of it entered the chart the same week, one by The 5th Dimension and the other by Diana Ross. The 5th Dimension version only made it to #80 and fell off the Hot 100 after four weeks, but Diana's version went to #1 and spent two weeks there. Besides being Diana's foray into disco, it made her the first female solo artist to have four #1 hits, surpassing Connie Francis, Helen Reddy, Roberta Flack, and Cher who had three each. She might not need no cure, but the subreddit has decided to cure the game of this song.
• Is Cracklin' Rosie about a girl or a wine? As the story goes, the name originally refererred to a cheap sparkling wine from British Columbia, Canada, that was popular among indigenous people. In some of these groups, the men greatly outnumbered the women, so the lonely men would buy a bottle of Cracklin' Rosie and it would be their woman. When Neil Diamond heard the story, he had to write a song that played on the double meaning, that works whether Rosie is a woman or a bottle of wine. Though Neil had a string of hits by then, this wwas his first #1. We could get on board with the idea, but in this game there ain't no more to go.

I've been a Crunchyroll subscriber for 3.5 years. There was no Crunchyroll app for my smart TV, purchased in 2016, and when I went online to find out if it might be supported in the future, I was a bit nonplussed to discover that they had in the past but had dropped support for that model. So I came up with plan B - I got the Windows app on my laptop, figured out how to hook the laptop up to my TV as a second monitor, and since then have been watching shows using fullscreen - not always without issues, but on the whole it worked well enough.

The TV had been slowly dying, so a couple of weeks ago I bought a new TV, and this time found that there is a native Crunchyroll app for it, and have been using it, or trying to. The UI is somewhat different but I had little difficulty figuring it out. The problem I've run into is that the TV app seems to be much worse about reduced resolution and buffering, and when it buffers, more often than not it never stops until I exit to the main screen for the show and restart the episode, which it resumes where it left off. Actually, it skips ahead a few seconds and I have to back it up. I also get a lot of brief sound dropouts and temporary reduced resolution.

I'll keep trying the app now and then, but for the most part I've switched back to Plan B - watching via the Windows app. The minor inconvenience of having to hook it up to the TV is worth being able to watch with an app that "just works" - not perfectly, because buffering still happens occasionally, but not near as often.

As a point of comparison, I also watch Hulu using their TV app and haven't run into the same issues I did with the Crunchyroll app.

• In 1970, The Jackson 5 had four consecutive single releases that went to #1. Though their recording career spanned more than 20 years, they never again topped the charts; they reached #2 three times and the Top 10 a few more, the last being their 1984 hit State of Shock with Mick Jagger which reached #3. The Love You Save was the third of the four consecutive #1s, and if you listen carefully you'll notice the lyrics include referenes to some historical figures. The singer might be saying I'm the one you need, but the subreddit has declared they don't need this song.
• New Kid in Town was the lead single from the Eagles fifth original studio album, Hotel California. It was released in December 1976, following the release of Their Greatest Hits earlier that year, and every song from the album got enough attention that it may as well have been 'Greatest Hits Vol. 2'. With the lead vocal by Glenn Frey, it's both about the fleeting nature of romance and a veiled reference to fame being fleeting in the music industry. Now that the voters of the subreddit are eliminating this song, will we still love it when it's not around?

• After the success of Saturday Night Fever, many fans wondered if the Bee Gees could come up with a successful follow-up album. That album was Spirits Having Flown and the lead single from it was Too Much Heaven, a song they had contributed to Music for UNICEF before the album's release. Among the backing musicians were the horn section from Chicago. THis song doesn't get too much love from the voters of this subreddit, and apparently neither does the album, since its three #1 hits are now the first three Bee Gees songs to be eliminated.
• Brandy was a song written by Scott English and Richard Kerr. It was recorded by English and reached #12 in the UK in 1971. On one occasion English had said the song was about a dog, but later claimed he only said that to get a reporter off his back. When Barry Manilow recorded the song in 1974, he changed the title to Mandy to avoid confusion with the song Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) which had been a hit in 1972. Now the voters are sending this song away, and we hope they won't be coming back saying they need it today.

• George McCrae hadn't had much success as a singer, either as a solo artist or with his wife Gwen McCrae, and was on the verge of leaving the music business for a career in law enforcement, when they were approached by Richard Finch and Harry Wayne Casey, better known as KC of KC and the Sunshine Band, to record a song they'd written, Rock Your Baby. Their original intent was for Gwen to sing it, but she was late to the studio that day so George gave it a try, and his voice suited it so well that it became his first hit. Gwen would have her turn on the chart about a year later with Rockin' Chair, her answer to George's hit. It made it to #9. Evidently, the emotions expressed in the songs didn't last; they divorced in 1976.
• Glen Frey of the Eagles said he was experimenting with an alternate tuning Joni Mitchell showed him, and together with J.D. Souther came up with the music for Best of My Love. Don Henley wrote the lyrics based on his breakup with his girlfriend. It went on the group's third album On the Border and they hadn't intended to release it as a single, but a DJ in Kalamazoo, Michigan had other ideas, and listener response was positive enough that their record company decided to do it anyway. It became their first hit to reach #1. You may see it your way, and I see it mine, but now the subreddit sees this song slipping away.

• The 5th Dimension were one of the more successful groups in the late 60s and early 70s, chalking up seven Top 10 hits including two #1s, both in 1969, the same year that two of its members, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr., got married. Later, the two of them recorded as a duo and had two Top 20 hits, one of which was the #1 hit You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show), which won them a Grammy award for best R&B song. They might not need to be stars to be in each others' shows, but in this game, the stars have gone out for this song.
• Barbra Streisand had her first #1 hit on the adult contemporary chart in 1964, People, but it only reached #5 on the Hot 100. Her first #1 on that chart (and her second on the AC chart) wouldn't come until nearly 10 years later. The Way We Were was the theme song of the movie by the same title, in which Streisand starred alongside Robert Redford. The song won multiple awards, including an Oscar, a Grammy, and a Golden Globe. • Three Times a Lady was the first of two songs by the Commodores to reach #1. According to Lionel Richie, who wrote the song and sang lead vocal, the 'three times' was inspired by a toast his father made to his mother, "She's a great lady, she's a great mother, and she's a great friend". Richie dedicated the song to his wife Brenda. It got two Grammy nominations, and won an American Music Award. Now that this song has come to the end of its rainbow, there's something we must say out loud, this song has been voted out.
• Southern Nights was written and originally recorded by Allen Toussaint. It didn't chart, as he was better known for his work as a songwriter and producer, having written such classics as Mother-in-Law (#1 for Ernie K-Doe in 1961) and Working in the Coal Mine (#8 for Lee Dorsey in 1966). Glen Campbell's cover would be the second #1 both for Toussaint as songwriter and Campbell as performer, and got a CMA nomination for song of the year. I apologize to anyone who can truly say they like this song, but now the weeping willows who wanted it out can cry for joy.

• It is said that the Bee Gees wrote Tragedy during an afternoon off during filming of the movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. That same afternoon they also wrote Too Much Heaven, and later that evening wrote Shadow Dancing with their younger brother Andy Gibb, who performed it. That's quite an impressive feat, writing three #1 songs in a single day. Though the song hadn't yet been written when Saturday Night Fever was released, it was later included in productions of the story in London's West End. Now the voters have declared when the feeling's gone and you can't go on, you're going nowhere.
• Brother Louie is another of those songs that was a hit for one artist in the UK and that version failed to chart in the US, but soon afterwards a cover version by another artist was a big hit in the US (see also Billy, Don't Be a Hero). The UK version by Hot Chocolate went to #7 in that country; they later charted hits in the US such as You Sexy Thing. The US version of Brother Louie was by Stories, a New York City based band that put out only two albums. Their version of the song about a relationship between a white man and a black woman being rejected by both of their parents went all the way to #1. It would be their only Top 40 hit. • Before she began her solo career, Minnie Riperton was a member of the psychedelic soul group The Rotary Connection, and a backup singer for Stevie Wonder. When she was ready to record an album, she asked Wonder to produce it, which he agreed to but couldn't us his own name so he worked under the pseudonym El Toro Negro. Riperton's husband Richard Rudolph was co-producer, and co-writer of seven of the nine songs on the album, Perfect Angel. Riperton is one of few singers able to sing in a whistle register, and she uses it in her only #1 hit, Lovin' You, along with birdsongs. Her life was cut short when she developed breast cancer which spread to her lymphatic system. She died in July 1979 at age 31. No one else can make us feel the colors that she brought, but unfortunately she couldn't stay with us while we grew old, and now neither does this song.
• Knock on Wood was originally a hit for Eddie Floyd, which he co-wrote with Steve Cropper, and it reached #28 in 1966. A cover the following year by Otis Redding and Carla Thomas peaked at #30. A 1974 cover by David Bowie reached #10 in the UK but failed to chart in the US. It was the disco version by Amii Stewart that would reach #1 in 1979. Though it became a disco anthem, it would be Stewart's only appearance in the Top 40. She also starred in stage musicals both before and after, such as Bubbling Brown Sugar. Like thunder, lightning, the way the voters want this song out is frightening.

I am looking to purchase a 65" or 70" to replace my current 55" TV. In particular, I want a TV that is likely to still look good 10+ years from now, and want to avoid any types or brands that are prone to developing color distortion, backlighting, or any other picture quality issues within that time frame. Are there any types (OLED, QLED, etc.) or brands (Samsung, LG, Sony, etc.) that are more reliable in this regard, and any that I should avoid?

What I've been able to find out so far is that OLED is best for picture quality but they're more expensive; unfortunately there seems to be very little information about long-term reliability. I would gladly pay extra for a TV that's going to look great for at least 10-12 years, and I absolutely despise the "planned obsolescence" culture where electronics (or any other types of appliances) are designed to wear out or fail and need to be replaced every few years.

My current 55" is a Samsung purchased in late 2016 that worked great for about 7 years but has since been developing purplish blobs, bright spots, and other problems that have gotten steadily worse since then. This is what I don't want to see for at least 10 years in a new TV.

Update: I have now purchased a TV. I went with an LG OLED B5 65", which will be delivered on Wednesday. Thanks to all who responded here. Your comments and suggestions were very helpful.

• Neil Sedaka had a successful run of hits between 1959 and 1963 but hadn't had a hit in over ten years when he signed on to Elton John's new record label, Rocket Records. Evidently it was a good move, since his first hit with that label, Laughter in the Rain, went to #1. It might have made you love the rainy days and the happy way you felt inside, but there's no tree to run under to escape these stormy skies.
• The first charted song by the Commodores, Machine Gun, peaked at #22 in 1974 and was their only instrumental. They would go on to have ten top 10 hits, showing a range of musical genres. Their #5 hit Brick House is a 1970s funk standard, but the two that reached #1 were both slow ballads. Their 1979 hit Still was one of them, written by Lionel Richie who also provided the lead vocal. Three years later, Richie would leave the group to pursue a solo career, becoming one of the most successful artists of the 1980s. The singer croons to his lady that 'you laughed at me, you said you never needed me', and now the voters have declared they don't need this song anymore.
