I wish for your good health whenever I find an eyelash resting on my cheek. Gently, I place it on my fingertip, close my eyes, and, without a moment's hesitation, my heart knows what it wants. You roll your eyes: "What? A loose hair is supposed to make me well again?" Yet I catch the faint twitch at the corners of your lips.

I wish for a carefree life for us with every coin I toss into a wishing well. I know you’ll grumble that it’s a waste of money, that we already have to watch where we stand. Your hand in mine squeezes tighter.

I wish for you to shine bright and strong, just like the shooting star I catch sight of when we lie on a rooftop at night, gazing up at the sky. You simply look at me, see my smile, and quickly look away again. I don’t need to say a word; you already know.

Different wishes, yet each one dedicated to you.

And every year, on my birthday, I make the very same wish. As I light the candle and gaze into the flame, if only for a fleeting moment, it seems to burn blue; and in that instant, I know my wish has already been granted before I’ve even had the chance to speak it out loud. I wish for you to be by my side, whether yesterday, today, or tomorrow.

I drew this a while ago but never got to share it. As I'm feeling a little emotional lately, I think now is a good time. ♡

Show me the place where your trust burned down the first time. The moment you realized the man who was supposed to protect you only ever saw a stepping stone toward something you were never meant to be. Show me what it did to you; not what you turned it into, not the anger you built on top of it. The scars you carry from promises that weren't kept.

Show me the love you gave that no one held carefully enough. From the child who kept trying, kept reaching for something that was always pulled just out of his hands. Show me the mornings you woke up already exhausted from existing. The version of you that learned tenderness was a debt, not a gift. That affection was something you had to fight for and still always out of reach.

I want the unsteady hands and the things you swallowed instead of said. Or the question you've never once let yourself ask out loud because the answer might be worse than not knowing.

Show me where it hurts, Touya. Not so I can fix it, I know better than that. I want to know exactly where to press my lips when I tell you that you're loved and make sure you feel it in the right place.

I wake up and he's already there. He stays through the whole day (stubborn about it, really) and when I finally close my eyes, he's made himself comfortable in that corner of my mind, grumbling but content. He makes me smile and I hope I do the same for him 💜🩷
