First time Usenet

Hello everyone,

I’m about to use Usenet for the very first time and I’m completely new to the topic. Because of that, I have a few basic questions before I accidentally set something up incorrectly.

My goal is to eventually build my own home server and use Usenet as part of that setup. From what I’ve learned so far, you essentially need two things:

  1. A newsreader
    2.A Usenet provider

For the newsreader, I’ve chosen Momentum. As for the provider, I’m currently considering Easy Usenet, mainly because it is recommended on the official Usenet website.

I have a few questions about this:

Does this combination make sense as a starting point, especially considering that I’m located in Germany, where I understand it’s important to be a bit more careful?

I’ve also read that it’s essential to enable SSL/TLS encryption in the newsreader. Are there any specific settings or recommendations that I should be aware of?
In addition, I’m wondering whether using a VPN is useful or even necessary. If so, what should I look for when choosing a VPN for Usenet, and are there any providers you would recommend?

I’ve also come across the term NZB indexer, but I still don’t fully understand what an indexer actually does, how it works, or whether it’s really necessary.

My only goal is to download content. I don’t intend to upload anything.

From your perspective, what would be the best next step? Am I making any fundamental mistakes with my current plan, or does this seem like a reasonable starting point?

Thank you very much in advance for any advice!

Setting Up a Home Server - Looking for Content Sources and Privacy Advice

Hello, dear community,

I’ve already set up a home server and am currently just looking for suitable sources and content for it. In my search, I came across fmhy.net, among other sites.

If anyone knows of any other good alternatives—especially those with German-language content in HD quality—I’d appreciate any recommendations.

However, the main reason for my post is this: I’d like to learn more about how to stay as safe and private as possible while browsing the internet.

I have a few questions about this:

• Is a VPN enough to protect your privacy?

• What additional measures do you use to enhance your online privacy?

• How do you make sure to reveal as little personal information as possible online?

• What should you generally keep in mind to minimize risks online?

Is it really as simple as just using a VPN and downloading, or are there other things I should consider as well, such as using a good antivirus program or taking additional security measures?

I look forward to hearing about your experiences and advice.

How to start the manga.

Hi everyone,

I discovered my love for manga through the anime "Detective Conan" and would now like to dive into the series. However, I'm a bit unsure about the best way to start.

My goal is primarily to follow the main storyline and the most important arcs. Since I originally come from the comic book world, I’m used to reading selectively and skipping less relevant content.

I’d also like to keep costs down as much as possible without having to buy every volume if most of them aren’t essential for my goal.

So here’s my question for you: Is there a recommended reading order or a list that lets me focus specifically on the main story ideally structured and as efficient as possible?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello everyone,

I have a question about a possible trip to Algeria and would really appreciate your honest experiences and advice.

A bit about our situation
I was born in Germany and only have limited experience with Algeria. I visited occasionally during school holidays, but that was about 15 years ago. I currently live in Germany and I am in a relationship with my girlfriend, who is from Russia. We do not speak Arabic or French, only English, German and Russian.
We are thinking about traveling to Algeria together and would like to visit Oran, Algiers, Tlemcen and Constantine. I have a few questions about this

Entry and formalities
What kind of challenges should we expect when entering the country, especially for my girlfriend, for example regarding visa or other requirements

Social norms and behavior, especially for women
We understand that dressing respectfully is important and that very revealing clothing is not appropriate. But what does that actually mean in everyday situations
Are there specific clothing or behavior tips that are especially important for women to avoid uncomfortable situations
Any practical advice would be really helpful

Safety and daily life
You hear very mixed things, from very positive experiences to negative stories
How safe is Algeria currently for tourists
Do you need to be careful about crime
How are people generally towards foreigners, are they welcoming and helpful

Language and navigation
Since we do not speak Arabic or French
How far can you get with English
Do things like internet access and Google Maps work reliably

Getting around the country
How easy is it to travel between cities like Oran, Algiers, Tlemcen and Constantine
Are public transportation options practical or rather difficult to use

Accommodation
Is it true that unmarried couples might have problems booking a hotel room together
What is the reality in practice

Daytime and nightlife
Are there certain times when it is better not to be outside anymore
I have heard that Oran has some level of nightlife, how realistic is that for tourists
I would really appreciate any honest insights, both about potential challenges and positive experiences
