Cutaway 30 Clone with Ultra 80X

Nashville Packs was not taking new orders and I’ve been eyeing the Cutaway for a while for an upcoming trip.

Made a clone from photos, descriptions, and the generously detailed spec sheet from their website. A really nice design which can be made with just a front and back panel and a single continuous seam. (the bottom is an extension of the back panel.

This is my first time working with Ultra 80X. To compensate for its lower denier and thinner backing, I backed the center and side anchors on the font panel with a double layer patch that I taped over on the inside.

Vest straps are made from Ultra 200X, 3mm spacer mesh and some 6mm eva foam in the shoulder sections.

Total weight with Y strap came out to 9.7oz

Challenge Outdoor Fabric Share

Hi all,

After struggling to find some less common Ultra fabrics from retailers, I decided to source some directly from Challenge Sailcloth.  I’m just a gear nerd who wants to make stuff for myself and family/friends. I have no need for the MOQ I had to meet to order directly from Challenge, so I'm looking to offload the rest quickly.  I’m sharing this post here before any of the geartrade subs.

Here is what I have available and the cost per yd:

TX95 - Black - $25 - 8 yds available

80X - Black - $42 - 8 yds available

80TX - Black - $48 - 6 yds available

200X - Gravel Grey $52 - 7 yds available

TNT - Desert Sage - $22 - 5 yds available

TENX - Jet Black- $46 - 7 yds available

TNT Seam Tape 1” - $5 per 5yds - 50 yds available

verification photos : https://imgur.com/a/I20NKK5

I have bought and sold in r/ulgeartrade and have history there.

I will only accept PayPal G&S for payment.  Prices above include PayPal G&S fee.  Must order at least one yard per fabric, in 1/2 yard increments.

Minimum order amount is $150.

I will cut and fold only.  Orders will ship in a 10x15 padded mailer bag.  Shipping to CONUS ONLY - $20 flat per order

DM me to get the ball rolling.

LP9+ Durability/Quality

Looking for a sanity check here. My LP9+ have 35 trail and 5 road miles on them (walking/hiking, not running). Outsole already starting to separate at the toe box.

If these shoes avg 300-500 miles lifespan that puts me at about 10%.

Is this normal wear and tear for shoes this new?

3D Printed UL/Breathable Spacer Mesh

I want to share my progress in pursuit of material that is UL, breathable, and could replace the spacer mesh/padding used in components that contact the body.

Here is my attempt Nashville-Style Running Vest Shoulder Straps and my own design fast belt for my 30L DCF pack. 3d printed PEBA padding with a backing of 1oz/yd Monolite ripstop. More monolite on top and various other materials I threw together from scraps. I’m pretty new to sewing and threw these together in a hurry. I printed a 1mm thick solid top and bottom border to the padding separated by rafting that I cut out to create a channel to wrap the fabric edging and webbing before binding all together.

Shoulder sections and fast belt are 6mm thick while the vest is 4mm. The shoulder straps (19”) weigh 101g (3.6oz) with all hardware as seen. The fast belt weighs under 52g (1.83oz).

I understand that the monolite may be the weakest link here, although I don’t have much experience with it. Searched pretty hard for a similarly breathable mesh with UHMWPE ripstop but couldn’t find anything. I think binding around the edges would help but I did not want the weight penalty. My base weight is under 9lbs so I am rarely carrying more than 20lbs at a time. These will be used in summer months when my pack is its lightest.

PEBA is a nylon based thermoplastic with properties similar to TPU, but higher rebound, lower density, and greater chemical and temp resistance.

Filament makers have recently introduced foaming agents to the material that is heat sensitive; allowing for variability in density and shore hardness based on the nozzle temperature.

Happy to answer any questions

Selling this lightly used original version Nero 38L in Gray DCF, because I have started making my own bags.

The shoulder straps on this bag are not swappable, like the newer versions.

There is zero delamination of the DCF.  In one photo you can see a small amount of DCF repair tape.  it is covering some light abrasion to the face fabric only, that probably came from something rubbing against it while hiking.

The original shock cord sewn into both side pockets had torn from use.  I replaced with new shock cord, sewn into the ends of the channels through a hole in the center, and now adjustable with cord locks as seen in the photo.

Standard 1" Hip belt included.

Also included are a new shoulder zip pouch and bottle pouch from zpacks, in the newer ultra fabric. 12.35 ounces total weight. Bag with hip belt is 10.69

$160 shipped to CONUS, PayPal G&S
