Teahouse with tatami flooring

Teahouse with tatami flooring

Hi!
I was wondering if anyone knows of a traditional teahouse with a tatami flooring (similar to this in Tokyo) where customers might just go and relax for a bit while drinking tea. All I can find are either a bar or a a traditional ceremony experience!

Thanks in advance

Recently renovated wooden floor. Visible roller marks, scratches and debris under the finish. What went wrong?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a house and had it renovated, including the wooden flooring, but I’m not very happy with the final result and I’d appreciate some advice from people who know more about flooring than I do.

The existing wooden floor was sanded back, cleaned and then the builders applied two coats of Osmo Polyx-Oil Raw Matt 3044. They told me this would both keep the wood relatively light/natural and protect it.

After the Osmo was applied, however, the surface apparently wasn’t as smooth as they expected, so they decided to apply Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish, Satin Medium Oak over it.

The finished floor now has several issues:
- Very noticeable roller/application marks in different areas, especially when the light hits it.
- It seems to scratch quite easily.
- There are a few bits of dust/hair trapped underneath the finish.
- The overall appearance is quite patchy and uneven.
- The floor also creaks in several places when walking on it, although that bothers me less than the finish.
I’ve attached some photos of the finished floor(first ones), as well as photos of the products that were used and how it wae after the Osmo (last ones).
I’ve only recently moved in and have already spent quite a lot on the purchase and renovation, so I’m trying to understand what my realistic options are before doing anything else.

My main questions are:

Was applying the Ronseal varnish over Osmo Polyx-Oil a mistake / are these products compatible?

Are the roller marks likely to be caused by poor application, the products used, or both?

Can this reasonably be fixed by sanding and refinishing the existing floor again?

If it needs sanding again, what finish would you recommend for a durable but fairly natural/light oak look?
At what point would it make more sense to replace
the flooring completely rather than trying to refinish it?
The wooden flooring covers roughly 40 m². I don’t have a huge amount of furniture yet, but I also don’t have anywhere to store everything, so I’m also interested in how disruptive a proper repair would be.

Any advice on what you think has gone wrong and what you would do next would be really appreciated.
🙏🙏

The weather app’s UI is incredibly confusing. The summary icon suggests rain for most of the day, but in reality it’s sunny with clear skies. There’s only about a 10% chance of precipitation and only for a single hour between midnight and 1am.

Why present it in a way that makes it look like a rainy day?
