Decline in performance

Hi all, just for context I’m a 24M running for about 7 months now. I’ve been building up my weekly mileage to about 60km since January, and maintaining that volume since April. Have had nil issues with increasing the intensity in training and managed to bring my easy paces down to 5.45min/km at my “easy” HR of 145-150.

Issue here is since start of June, i noticed my HR increasing quite a bit, I’m now running a 6.10min/km at 155 HR (normally that would require a 5.20min/km pace). My resting HR and HRV have been all over the place for all of June too.

I decided to cut down to 30km a week and only running easy paces, but it’s been 4 weeks now and nil improvement.

I didn’t get sick, nil injuries, nil stressors in life (matter fact i completed two big uni exams end of May and have been on break). It’s Winter in Australia so I don’t think weather is the cause.

Any ideas on what to do? How do I go ahead with training?

Current stats:
5k: 22.00
10k: 45.20
HM: 1.40.00

Overtraining issue advice?

Hi all, apologies in advance for the long discussion.

I'm 24M, have been running consistently for 6 months now. I've built up to a weekly distance of 60kms over this period, maintaining the 60kms over the last 2 months. I train 5 times a week, 2x easy runs, 1x tempo, 1x interval and 1x long run (16-20kms). Usually, it's 3 runs, rest day, 2 runs, rest day.

About 1 month ago, I had a 2 week exam period, meaning I ended up resting Mon + Tues and ran 5 days straight for 2 weeks. Following this period, I noticed my HRV had decreased (from usual high 80s/low 90s to mid 70s) and resting HR spiking to mid 50s (normally high 40s, my max HR usually 196).. My easy runs (which I normally run 5.50-6 min/km at HR 145-148) spiked to 160s consistently. Thinking it may have been overtraining, I took the next 2 weeks light, running 30kms weeks with rest days between each run.

My HRV and resting HR have basically returned to baseline - although I do notice my day-to-day HR being a little bit higher than what I expect (normally 60-70s, now 70s-80s). The issue here is that nothing much has changed about my running. I'm still struggling to keep my HR below 150 at paces of 6.20min/km, which was where I was at maybe 3 months ago into my running.

It's a little confusing as nothing really changed about intensity or volume in my training. I didn't get sick. My legs feel fresher than ever, but it feels like my heart and lungs are not keeping up anymore? It's just frustrating to see my progress decrease so rapidly and with no particular reason. I know I shouldn't be looking at VO2max and these numbers, but seeing them decrease day by day with each run just disheartens my efforts.

Any advice on how I should go back into training? Anything would be great, I'm very desperate for a change.

PS. I also have an upcoming half-marathon in 14 weeks, which I was aiming for sub 90 (current PB 1.40), but unsure if that is even a possibility now with increased efforts at easier runs.

Overtraining?

Hi all, I’ve written here a week ish ago. The problem initially was tanking H R V and resting HR spiking overnight with increased HR during easy runs after a 2 week block of 5 days on 2 days off due to exams. I’d consistently been running 60k weeks for 2 months, with a gradual build up since January. Everything seemed to be improving well (including those two exam weeks) until it didn’t.

I took several days off running completely, only to go back to an easy run at 6.15min/km (which normally is 140-145 bpm) at 160bpm instead. Decided to take the week light with a rest day between each run.

Happy to say H R V and resting HR basically went back to normal, but my running HR still seems a bit raised. I am a bit of a data nerd and hyperfixated on numbers, so seeing my HR spike with decreasing VO2max is definitely a slap in the face after feeling like all my fitness disappeared randomly.

Any advice on how I should handle this going forward? I’ve got a doctors appointment booked in 2 weeks for general health check. I initially had a goal of sub 90 half marathon in 15 weeks but unsure if I will even be able to start training for that which worries me.

PS. I’m 24M, not sick or unwell, no new stress to life. But I do have a history of having SVT (a heart issue but has been fixed with two surgeries 3 years ago).

Tanking metrics

Hi there, new to this thread so apologies if my tags are wrong. I'm 24M, been running for about 6 months with a forerunner (265 for 5 months, 965 recently). I've noticed my sleep and H R V began to decrease. Same with resting HR at night, I used to average 46-49 since January, but it has been averaging 53-55 over the last 2 weeks. My easy runs HR has also been spiking as of the past 2 weeks also, sitting in the high 150s compared to mid 140s.

I train 4-5 times a week, averaging 60kms weekly. No changes to the intensity of training or stress in life. Don't think I've been sick or anything. Matter fact, I had my med school exams 2 weeks ago and was performing better than now when I'm in mid year break. Also it’s winter here in Australia, so I don’t think temperature is an issue.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Legit check please

I’m new to Oakleys as a brand so not too familiar with models or colourways. Help would be appreciated, price feels too good to be true.
