Festive blues and pravasi loneliness
Asking this out of mild desperation here. I am a 22F malayali living in delhi (born and raised in delhi). Growing up I had plenty of malayali friends and family friends. But over the years they all have moved back to Kerala or gone to other cities in India and around the world for their jobs and colleges. Some people retired. Some people just moved 3 hrs away from my house so it's really feasible to go meet them as frequently. It's great that people are living their life and all but as this onam approaches, for the first time I feel so lonely. Vishu, onam, christmas, eid, easter, having spent all of it with many of my malayali friends here for two decades together, for the first time having no one around me feels kinda daunting.
My parents are here with me. But my grandfather died earlier this year so we aren't planning to celebrate anything much this year (which we all agree is ironic cause my communist atheist grandfather definately did not believe in all of this sad sobby mourning. We ourselves don't know why we are not planning to do anything then). My college does not have any malayali(surprising for healthcare somehow). Hell the other people who are malayali around me are legit in their late 20s and busy working doctors. So it's not like I can just ask them to make plans with me for onam.
Maybe deep down this is just a vent, maybe it's asking people what their experience regarding all of this has been.
How do people deal with festive season alone? Especially when your friends (North Indians) don't really catch the significance to begin with?
