Reddit Toronto Monthly Meetup: Sat. Sept. 5 @ Front & Church, 7:00 p.m. start

Hey all, hope you're having a good week so far! Wanted to give a bit more notice for this one.

Here are the details:

  • The monthly Reddit meetup is a no-cost event open to all genders. No RSVP is required. It is hosted by u/nervousTO, a woman in their early 30s, with support from a group of regular attendees. It's been running since August 2022 and has been described as wholesome.
  • Start time: 7:00 p.m.
  • End time: when the last person leaves or the place closes @ 2 a.m.
  • Location: Duke's Refresher St. Lawrence, 73 Front Street East
  • Where do I go: upstairs, using the stairs directly in front of you when you walk in. There should also be a sign saying Reddit meetup.
  • Perks: We have the upstairs mostly to ourselves; there's also a pool table, and games on the main floor.

Note that no RSVP is required, but that by showing up, you commit to ordering something to support the venue, even if it's just a coke.

Our Q&A is here - I haven't included it with the post as it's quite detailed!

Send me a message or comment here if you have any questions or concerns about anything related to this meetup/questions that aren't answered in the Q&A.

Update to Subreddit Rules / Clarity Around Filters

We've added a few new rules to the subreddit, thought I would go over them:

  1. No advertisements (within reason): If you advertise a dental cleaning or paid professional services, your post will be removed or not approved. Some exceptions may apply: if you are offering to take photos for free/fun, if you are giving away a ticket to meet a friend, etc. We're still working on this.

  2. No questions, unless they are related to making friends or meeting up with fellow Redditors: Feel free to ask about Bumble BFF or TimeLeft or share a service that helps with making friends. General questions about events will be removed and redirected to r/AskTO or r/TorontoEvents, depending on the question's content.

  3. No social media links: For your safety, we remove comments and posts sharing social media links (Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Discord, etc). Public links to social media can result in unwanted messages and/or spam. This also means you cannot post information about another Redditor. It's against Reddit's rules to doxx. If you do post/share this content, you will receive a temporary ban.

  4. Don't misrepresent yourself: If you post with different ages/genders/ethnicities, your post will be removed. First offence is a temporary ban, second offence is a permanent ban.

  5. Don't message the OP if you don't meet post requirements: This is a brand new rule. We want your post requirements to be respected. If a man is looking for only male friends, and you're a woman, don't message them. If a woman is only looking for female friends, and you're a man, don't message her. If the poster is looking for someone within a certain age range, and you're much older, don't message them.

  6. No low effort posts: This is one we're still deciding how to enact. We don't want to discourage posters, but we also want posts to clearly identify you and what you're looking for.

Additionally, there are several filters set up in this sub:

  1. We auto-remove posts and comments with certain words. All removed posts and comments are reviewed, and if appropriate, we approve them.

  2. Most of the time, new accounts and/or accounts with low karma have their posts/comments trapped by Reddit's filter. We review these removals and approve them (so long as they meet subreddit rules).

  3. Reporting: 3 reports of a comment or post result in an automatic removal. Make sure to report anything against the subreddit rules.

Upcoming July 2026 Meetups/Events List

We're bringing back the monthly pinned Meetups/Events List.

Post a comment here if you're planning on joining an upcoming activity or hosting one of your own and would like to invite others to join you.

Post the date/time, location, and cost to attend (i.e. bowling has lane/shoe rental costs, pickleball has court rental cost, workshops have feeds associate, etc).

All submissions (top-level comments) should be scheduled and ready to go with a confirmed time and location.

PS: I'm now a mod here in r/TorontoHangoutFriends! We're slowly rolling out small changes to rules that are generally observed in other Toronto Reddit subs and platfom-wide such as not including social media in your posts/comments, being excellent to others by respecting their post criteria, and more. I'm still getting up to speed with everything, but a feedback post to hear more about what you like and dislike about this community is in the works.
