Hidden gems between Łódź and Warsaw worth a 3-hour stop?

I’m traveling from Łódź Chojny to Warsaw tomorrow and was wondering if there are any towns or cities along the route that are worth stopping in for up to 3 hours to explore. I’m especially interested in good food, historic spots, churches, and places with a nice atmosphere or local vibe.

I don’t know anything about the places between Łódź and Warsaw, so I’d really appreciate any recommendations for worthwhile stop-offs along the way.

How is broken Polish received?

I’m English and on my second trip to Poland. I’ve been picking up some Polish and I can manage things like ordering food, saying good day, goodbye, and basic pleasantries, but I can’t hold a conversation. The reason I learnt a little Polish was because I found it quite awkward not being able to interact in basic Polish when travelling in Poland.

On my last visit I tried using it quite a bit (badly, I may add). I have definitely improved a little bit this time round and I was just wondering how Polish people actually feel about foreigners trying their best to speak Polish, even if it’s not very good, and how it’s received.

Dziękuję

I’m visiting Łódź soon (despite a lot of people telling me not to 😅), and I’m mostly just curious about what the area is actually like.

I’ve heard mixed things about Włókiennicza and some of the surrounding streets. I was led to believe they’re best avoided, but others say it’s fine if you use common sense. I’ve also seen comments describing it as a bit of a rough area, so I’m not sure what to make of it. I’ve been to other places in Poland before and found them very safe, so I’m trying to get a better feel for this specific area and not get myself caught out.

I like to walk everywhere when I travel, so there’s a good chance I’ll end up passing through or walking down those streets at some point.

Are they actually unsafe, or just a bit rough-looking?

Would you avoid them entirely, or are they generally fine during the day / early evening?

Any honest, up-to-date insight would be appreciated.

I visited Poland last year and was genuinely blown away. I went to Warsaw (9/10), Częstochowa (8/10), Zakopane (3/10), Kraków (6/10), and Poznań (7/10).

I’m heading back in a week on a budget trip and will be staying in Gdańsk (planning a day trip to Hel), plus visiting Malbork, Toruń, Łódź, and Wrocław. I’ll be travelling between places by train.

The main focus of the trip is Polish food, visiting churches, and experiencing Polish culture without spending too much.

How do these places compare to the ones I’ve already been to? Any must-see spots, budget food recommendations, or general travel tips would be really appreciated.
