Regular vs wide board

Noob here. I’m seeing a very good deal on a Burton Cartographer and want to get one. I’m leaning towards the 159 because I’m 6 feet tall, around 180 pounds. The question is the width. My shoe size is US 11, and I think my boot size is likely to be 10.5, but I’m such a noob that I don’t know it exactly.

The regular has a waist width of 258, the wide 266. Which one should I get?

PSA: turning right in a vehicle when there’s a bike lane

Since cars turning right across the bike lane in an intersection is the single most common dangerous thing I come across while riding, I thought I’d put this together to help drivers and bikers with what to do and what not to do. It’s not fully comprehensive, but covers the basics.

  1. Standard bike lane with dashed white line approaching the intersection: cars turning right should merge into the bike lane when safe, and wait until it is clear to turn. Bikers approaching such a car either wait behind it or pass on the left.

  2. Standard bike lane with solid line approaching the intersection: cars wait in their own lane until it’s clear to turn. Yield to any bikes going straight through the intersection, even if the car was there first.

  3. Protected bike lanes: includes lanes separated by curbs, bollards, planters, and raised cycle tracks (like the ones along parts of Erb and University). Similar to (2), cars can’t merge into the bike lane, and must yield to bikes going straight through before turning.

One thing that can make this complicated is that some of the lanes are mixed, meaning a protected lane ends before the intersection and becomes painted with dashed lines. In that case you’d merge into the lane like in (1).

Hopefully this helps with the basics. And before anyone has a conniption in the replies about it, I realize that bikers don’t always follow these rules either, and they should.

Don’t be this person

Almost every time I ride my bike around Waterloo there’s some issue, from cars cutting me off, to people riding the wrong way in the bike lane, to cars parking in the bike lane. Today it’s a person using the bike lane as a sidewalk (next to the empty sidewalk) and then getting pissy and throwing her arm up at me when I ring the bell for her to get out of the way.

Semaglutide becoming less effective over time?

Been in semaglutide for just about two years. Went from maximum 225 pounds to lowest 175. Definitely very happy with the results.

Started on .25mg, which was very effective in curbing hunger and cravings. I started losing weight immediately and quickly. After the second month, went up to .5mg, stayed there for a long time and then finally went to 1mg after about a year. The whole time the drug was like magic in keeping my eating in check.

Over the last 2 months or so it seems like the semaglutide is losing its effectiveness and the hunger and cravings are coming back. As a result I’ve gained back roughly 5 pounds. Not a huge deal, but not loving it.

Has anyone experienced this? Doctor refuses to increase the dose because my BMI is still technically in the normal range (very close to the top of the range).

Issues with indoor pepper plants

First off, I’m a noob when it comes to growing peppers, so please take it easy on my if I’m doing things that are stupid.

I’m growing six pepper plants indoors: 2 ghost, 2 reaper, 2 habanero. As you can see in the pics, they’ve grown to a decent size, but I’m having some ongoing issues that I can’t seem to solve:

  1. curling leaves. I think it’s especially prominent on the reapers. I’ve tried insecticidal soap over a couple of weeks, improving airflow, being careful with watering, but some of the new leaves are still coming in curly. Don’t know what to do
  2. leaf and bud drop. Across a few of the plants, several buds have turned yellow and

fallen

  1. off. Also some healthy looking leaves doing the same. Totally stumped on this one

Any advice is welcome.

For Ontario Wegovy users: is your Wegovy prescription 4 single use pens, or 1 multi-dose pen?

Context: I asked my pharmacist to switch me over to Wegovy from ozempic so I could use the single dose pens instead (both are covered by insurance). She looked at me like I was an idiot and told me Wegovy was also a single multi-dose pen. This is not what I’ve seen online, so wanted to confirm with actual users.
