heard that war and peace is a bore
So, I'm a Tolstoy fan, through and through. When I say that, I mean that I loved Anna Karenina notwithstanidng that one farming sequence (iykyk), and I think it to be one of the most perfect representations of society. I also read one of his religious compilations (confessions), where he goes into depth regarding his unique approach to christianity. He considers himself a Christian, but the archetype of traditional christianity does not align with his own, so idk if he really is a christian (apology for the digression but that is a another topic for another time).
I also recently finished Resurrection but honestly thought much of it was a bore. Regarding other books that I read and enjoyed, I loved C&P and Brothers K and the idiot from Dostoevsky. Brothers K is my favorite book of all time. These were absolutely excellent books. Notes from the Underground was absolutely trash though and I couldn't even finish it.
Just wanted to give a brief history of my likes and dislikes within the realm of Russian literature in an effort to ascertain whether War and Peace would be something that would fit within my interests. I love long books, but am not a big fan of war sequences (which I've heard war and peace is rife with).
So, based on what I've said, do you guys think war and peace would be a good read based on your experience with it? lmk
‘My beginning and my end” (@scarlettism)
Gng why is one of them always looking at the other’s lips
Oh, to be in love 🥰 (@reimanticism)
The hand placement too bro helpppp 😩
Also found this quote the other day and wanted to share:
“Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get—only with what you are expecting to give—which is everything.”
Think that was Katherine Hepburn but might be wrong. Anyway, have a great day guys! Love yall ❤️💙
to this day, this line absolutely decimates me
you know dialogue is top-tier when a question as simple as this hits you in the feels. there's nothing extravagant about it, no complex language or overcomplicated lingo; but in the context of what comes before and what follows this is the absolute perfect line and I honestly praise the writers for coming up with such masterful dialogue. its what made arcane such a fucking gem
Vi's affinity for nicknames
I js thought this was such a cool and cute thing to highlight. If Vi likes you, she gives you a nickname. Just like how she agreed with Jayce in regards to his feelings about not doing enough, if there is an ounce of affection, she'll give you a nickname. I just thought that's such a cool trait to have. Every arcane character is different, but the fact that Vi likes giving out nicknames so much just shows the depth of her character.
I understand the controversy behind “Remember Me” but yall gotta understand d4vd didn’t even write it
Lowk as we're in the middle of the "remember me" controversy, I just wanted to clear one thing up. I'm just like a lot of you, I loved this song to death, and it's amazing and very emotional, and in the context of the scene, any person would probably be close to tears or start bawling (I did the latter).
But the thing is, none of the songs in Arcane, or at least majority of them (there may be like one or at the very most two that were solely created by artists featured), were made by the artists. Riot's music team was the one that created the songs, as in the music, the beats, and the lyrics. All they did was get these artists to come and sing the lyrics. So d4vd didn't really write it. All he did was sing it.
And yeah, it's sucks that it's removed but it's necessary. D4vd did some really fucked up shit and he deserved it, but he didn't write this. Certainly his voice did help the song, but there's so many amazing singers out there that can do as good of a job if not better on this track. He's replaceable, is what l'm saying, and he basically had no like major influence on the structure and overall greatness of the song.
I certainly hope they get another artist to cover this song. It's amazing, and because of a fucked-up guy, riot's music team doesn't deserve for this song to completely go away. And yeah, it'll sound a bit weird since we're all used to hearing his voice on the track, but like everything else, this too is transitory, and soon we'll have the new artist on repeat. The music team doesn't deserve to have their song erased because of an idiot like him.
Anyway, just wanted to clear it up. Love the arcane fandom, and we will always survive no matter what.
That's how it is when you love something; through trials and tribulations, we'll come out on top, because if there's anything that can defeat hardship it's passion and determination.
crazy how soft "tough" people become when they're with someone they love
just look at the difference in her eyes...that softness, that love in the last frame in contrast with the former two. How amazingly the arcane animators captured emotion. Its often said that "eyes are the window to the soul", and its so true. You can clearly see that Vi isn't tough all the way; shes really a softie at heart. And those eyes tell you everything you need to know about how far she'd be willing to go for Cait.
sometimes just sitting in silence with a loved one is best (@simplytomh)
“The door was locked”, Vi says as you enter.
Your eyes widen, your breathing coming in short gasps.
Caitlyn’s fingers are in Vi’s hair, hanging on to her like a lifeline, head rocked back, eyes closed, lips parted, face twisted in ecstasy. She’s too far gone to register anything but the woman in between her legs.
Vi moves her arm, which is currently buried underneath Caitlyn’s skirt, wringing a “fuck, yes” from Caitlyn above, followed by “good girl.”
You slowly step back, hand reaching for the handle, unable to peel your eyes from the sight.
Vi motions to you to ‘get out’. You nod, swallowing hard, and slowly slip out of the room, closing it with a soft click.
“Fuck!” The sheriff’s voice comes from inside.
It was different to see the sheriff like this. The disciplined, composed, poise-ful woman you knew as your boss.
And we were in the fucking precinct. You had gone in to ask about a report.
You remind yourself to not enter her office again unless summoned or allowed to come in.
Just a lil fun thing I wrote lol to go with this gorgeous piece of art.
This isn’t really an appreciation post, more of an analysis.
The world’s meant to change, right? I mean, everything in this life is transitory. Nothing is permanent. Yet, sometimes too much changes in too little time that…it’s tiring.
For Vi so much has changed. She’s lost so much. So to find Caitlyn, who (let’s forget about the dictator arc and moreso what comes after), who loves her and does so much for her, it must be refreshing. She’s eventually the constant of Vi’s world. She grounds Vi.
At first it probably felt weird to her, as we saw in the show. All that softness and love inflicted upon Vi. She didn’t expect it, given her Zaun heritage and how they’re normally viewed by Piltovans.
But you can see, as she gets to know Caitlyn more and more, she also falls in love, and she becomes more open and open to what Caitlyn has to give.
There’s so many moments in the show where you can catch Vi’s gaze on Caitlyn, and that look, those puppy-dog eyes, you can see all that toughness and badassery just fly out the window. She’d probably do anything Caitlyn asked without a moment’s notice.
And Caitlyn will be there for her. They’ll grow old together and Vi will finally understand and feel how nice it is to have something in life that doesn’t change constantly. Finding a constant in an ever-changing world, Vi’s world. I think she deserves that.
I saw that this was the original ending...Vi's a character whose losses aren't minimal. They're great in magnitude. Her trauma is great, her life is a sob story, and on top of that they wanted to kill her off? That doesn't set right with me.
My baby's lost so much. That's an understatement. I'm not like a movie or show nerd, but I haven't seen many shows where the main character loses THAT much. Its incomprehensible. No human should ever have to go through that. Most people don't have to capacity to withstand the toll trauma like this takes on us.
She's a fantastic character but the fact that they even considered an ending like this makes me angry for some reason.
What do you guys think? Do you think this would have been a good or bad decision?
