What It's Like Being Alone

What It's Like Being Alone

This was a fever dream show, with wonderful stop motion animation, about orphans desperately trying to get adopted. Canadian program that aired in 2006 and unfortunately only had 13 episodes. I was 15 when it came out and I absolutely loved it.

Luckily the series is available on YouTube. Despite its appearance, it is very much not a kid's show.

Anybody else ever heard of this? One of the writers for it also wrote Ginger Snaps which I thought was neat.

IJW: Bloke of the Apocalypse (2023)

It's a cartoon out of New Zealand, I watched it on Tubi but I believe is also on youtube. It's a fantastic story about a sheep farmer and his son trying to keep their lamb and themselves alive throughout the zombie apocalypse.

It was so funny. The character design was fabulous. As a Canadian there are not many accents I enjoy more than the New Zealand accent and this is rife with it.

The overall story is entertaining, the father-son relationship against the backdrop of the Wenza virus spreading rapid-fire across the south island, Bloke and his worry about the mailman leaving skid marks in his toilet, the frigging facial expressions.

Part 2 is being released on youtube next year, and I, for one, cannot recommend part 1 enough. It's 47 minutes of oddities and humour and tense moments. A real underrated gem.

Looking for a tutor to learn German

DuoLingo and Babbel can only get me so far. Anyone know someone local or within a 40 minute drive that is fluent in German that could help me out? I've tried searching for tutoring courses and no dice. I definitely prefer in person as opposed to virtual.

Tschüs!

Different accents in Moana 2

This is just a dumb question I have after just watching Moana 2 with my kid.

If the villagers of Motonui have been isolated to just themselves for 1000 years, how come some of the villagers have New Zealand accents?

I ask this while fully admitting I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box, so maybe the answer is glaringly obvious.

Empire

Nobody remembers this show even existed and I absolutely loved it. If I mention the title to anyone they think I mean the admittedly more successful Empire about the music studio or whatever (I never watched it).

Best milkshakes

Where's the best place to get a chocolate milkshake that is made with chocolate ice cream? A disappointing number of places make them with vanilla and chocolate syrup which is disgusting. I already know Harvey's and Gladiator Burger are not what I'm looking for.

Saturday June 6 LW traffic

My parents are panicking and they won't take my word that it will be fine so I thought I'd reach out to you fine folks who know far more about this than me. I'm also glad to be told I'm 100% wrong.

They're going to Toronto for a 3pm show on Saturday. They take the train from Aldershot and will be getting the 12:07. Their friends told them about the Jays game and now they think they have to drive which they don't like due to traffic and then the hassle of parking.

I told them there will be parking available when they arrive at Aldershot at 11:30. Their show ends by 5 and they will likely have dinner then take the train home. Depending on when the game ends I expect there to be more riders on the journey to Aldershot, but they have now convinced themselves there will be no parking at the station and that they will have to fight for a spot on the train home.

I often go to Toronto on the same route on weekends for the opera and other events, and on days when there are Jays games, I've still not had an issue finding parking at Aldershot nor getting the train home. Am I being falsely confident based on my own experience or are they right to doubt?

I do know that the LW trains are running hourly this weekend due to track work but I still think the train is the better choice. I just want to help them have as stress-free as possible day.

Set a new record for myself today

I took my daughter today and man, it's gonna be such a hard slap in the face with reality when we go over the summer.

We arrived at 11 and left at 9, and in that time we rode White Water Canyon 23 times, Silver Streak 12 times, The Fly and Wilde Beast 10 times each, Knightmares and The Rage 10 times, Thunder Run and Ghoster Coaster 11 times, Snoopy's Racing Railway 9 times, Backdoor Sluts 9 times, etc. She's not ready for the big 4 yet but we had a blast on all of her favourites.

Those aren't even all the rides we rode, the rest were in Kidzville. OH and Boo Blasters wasn't a 45 minute line for once!

The line for Alpen Fury was so tempting. I cannot wait for her to be ready to upgrade.

If you were there today, how was it for you?

I love the mild sauce i get on wings at various restaurants, that kinda sweet, kinda vinegar-y, deep, rich red sauce. But it isn't sold anywhere and I would love to make my own. I've found some recipes online but I hope I can hear from someone who makes their own or has better ideas on how to make it.
