If Jaguar release an SUV next, I think they’ll be fine

I am one of the few people that have liked the new direction since the 00. That said, I been speculating as to why they made it a 4 door. Overall, I think it comes down to two theories.

  1. Going 4 door was a practicality compromise that helps the car in sales. It makes it viable for a few more scenarios and doesn’t pit it directly against other coupe choices.

  2. They have an SUV planned as a follow-up and wanted to reuse the same tooling.

My feeling is that if they launch an SUV version of this car, it is going to FLY off the sales room floors.

The Real Weight of Loosing Newey

RedBull are performing reasonably well after a temultuous start with Max being able to challenge for pole and Hadjar being rather close to his teammate. But what isn't being discussed is the RocketShip.

Russell mentioned in pre-season testing that RedBull were doing things with their engine that Mercedes could not match. We all laughed. Turns out he was right. So much so that Mercedes are being given upgrade opportunities for their own engine.

Well. If RedBull has the rocketship engine, then why not rocketship finishing? Turns out their aero kinda sucks. But what could have happened which would make a team, highly praised for their aero each season, suddenly be the worst performing of the front-runners?

Adrian Newey.

When he left, I genuinely thought he had always been a hype man, and wasn't integral to RedBull's success as we all made out. The absolute capitulation of Aston Martin, made me pat myself on the back as being clearly correct. However, RedBull obviously now have the worst aero of the top 4 teams. That's an amazing fall from grace.

Meanwhile, I'm starting to wonder if Aston's comments about having the best aero platform are actually true? Is Adrian Newey actually the reason that RedBull are not running away with this season? Would they be beating Merc? One has to think there is a chance they would be had he not left.
