How to decide on a homeschool approach?

We are preparing to homeschool our kids (still preschool age and younger), and I'm very drawn to different aspects of many different approaches (Waldorf, Classical, Montessori, etc...). I'm not dead-set on subscribing fully to any one model but rather interested blending things I like from different pedagogies. I just don't know if I'm setting myself up for more challenges in doing this, from finding the right curricula to making a confusing learning environment. By nature, I'm an over-thinker and tend to overcomplicate matters, so I want to avoid this and provide the best learning environment that I can for my kids!

I'm curious to know how others have decided on their approach/philosophy. Have you stuck to one, made your own, combined elements of different styles? Have you changed your style over time? Are there areas you have deviated from your preferred style?

FYI - I'm not looking for this discussion to be a battle of all the different approaches!

Is anyone using National CAD Standard layers?

We are addressing our company templates, and there is division as to whether to use the National CAD Standard. It seems the division is mostly between young and old. The younger folks don’t think it’s as applicable with BIM technology, and the older folks think the standards reign supreme. What sayeth ye?

I have been on the fence since I have had kids. I just found out I am pregnant, and I have a burning desire to be home with my kids. They grow so fast, and I feel like I never see them. We have savings, but my husband is self-employed, meaning we would be losing my insurance and finding our own. Everybody tells me I’d be stupid to quit, but I just can’t get past the belief that missing out on this precious time with my kids is something I will deeply regret. I believe we can get by, even if we are drastically changing our standard of living. If we are really desperate, I could find a new job.

Has anyone been through this decision-making process? Would love to hear from you.

One reason I'm considering homeschooling my kids is because of how heavily our local schools use screens during the school day and for homework. There aren't strict rules on phone usage, and every kindergartener has their own iPad. This is something I don't want for my kids, especially one who has ADHD like me.

In an ideal world, we'd be *nearly* screen-free (we love our family movie nights). However, I do want to introduce them to computer science, typing, coding, video/photo editing, etc... Additionally, while I'm sure there are so many great online homeschooling resources, our preference (especially in the early years) is an analogue approach to learning.

Just curious to know what others do to curb screen time but still teach computer skills. Have you found a good balance?
