Toronto this weekend: heat wave, FIFA fever, and a Scarborough food festival — what’s everyone’s plan?

Big weekend in the city:

🥵 Still under an orange heat warning through Saturday
⚽ FIFA World Cup energy is everywhere downtown — Fan Festival at Ontario Place if you want to catch a match with a crowd
🍢 Taste of Lawrence festival is on in Scarborough all weekend — food, music, free entry
🏖️ Perfect excuse to hit the beach or islands if you need to cool off

What’s everyone doing? Riding out the heat somewhere with AC, catching a match, hitting a festival, or just staying in?

Also — if you’re new here, this is basically peak “welcome to a Toronto summer” energy. Heat, soccer, and street festivals all at once.

🚧 Toronto Road Closures This Weekend (July 3-6) — plan your routes

Busy weekend with festivals, FIFA, and construction all overlapping. Here’s what’s closed:

Scarborough — Taste of Lawrence Festival
Lawrence Avenue East is closed between Warden Avenue and Birchmount Road from 10am Friday to 2am Monday. Simultaneously, Warden Avenue between Eglinton Avenue East and Ellesmere Road has water infrastructure work happening. If you’re heading to the festival, take the 68A bus to Warden Station on Line 2.

Don Valley Parkway
Closed starting 11pm Friday until 5am Monday for resurfacing and infrastructure work.

Downtown / Waterfront (Sunday — likely a race event)
Several closures starting early Sunday:

Bayview Avenue (Front St to Mill St) and Mill Street closed Saturday 7am to Sunday 5pm
Yonge Street between Lawrence and Eglinton closed from 4am Sunday
Front Street, Cherry Street, and more downtown streets closing between 4-6:30am Sunday

FIFA World Cup zone (ongoing through July 31)
Fleet Street remains fully closed between Fort York Blvd and Strachan Ave until July 31, and expect increased traffic and restrictions near Toronto Stadium and the FIFA Fan Festival. If you’re near Liberty Village/Fort York/Exhibition Place, avoid driving downtown if you can.

Bottom line: if you’re heading anywhere near downtown, the DVP, or Scarborough this weekend — check your route first, or just take the TTC.

Anyone got other closures spotted in their area? Drop them below 👇

🥵 Orange Heat Warning in effect for Toronto — here’s what you need to know

Environment Canada has Toronto under an orange heat warning, with high temperatures continuing through Saturday and potentially reaching up to 37°C in some areas. Humidex values could make it feel as hot as 45°C.

Overnight lows are only expected to drop to 21-23°C, so there’s little relief even at night. Good news: real relief is coming Saturday night, when temperatures will drop to a much cooler 18°C.

Stay safe out there:

**•**	Drink water often — before you even feel thirsty
**•**	Close blinds/shades if it’s cooler inside than outside
**•**	If your place doesn’t have AC, head to a cooling centre, library, or shaded park
**•**	Never leave kids or pets in a parked car — even briefly
**•**	Check in on elderly neighbours or anyone living alone

If you’re new to Canadian summers — yes, it actually gets this hot and humid here. Not just a winter country.

Anyone know good free cooling spots (libraries, malls, splash pads) in their neighbourhood? Drop them below so newcomers know where to go 👇
