Botched Homes premieres September 2

Been waiting a while, but it was recently announced it’ll be on at 10PM.

Charlie Kawas, a carpenter and contractor, originally from NYC, then moved to Florida several years ago, will fix the messes that other “contractors” have left in their wakes.

Just remember, “New Yorkers don’t have accents, everyone else does.”

Suggestions needed to block view of the recently-raised pool equipment.

Because of occasional flooding, we finally got around to raising our pool equipment. The piping coming from underground was reused, we got a new Hayward heat pump and VS pump, as well as a new chlorinator.

Our liner was just changed too.

Please throw some suggestions at me for blocking the 2’ high raised platform on at least two sides.

I’m thinking maybe a small 3’ high slatted fence, one of those fake hedges, maybe use flat stones to cover the cinder blocks. I don’t want to paint them.

I’m currently not in love with any of my own ideas.

FYI, the vinyl fence going around the property is a light beige, it’s called, “Sand”.

When my pool was being built, I was a bit surprised to see sloping walls from about 4’ from the top down to the floor.

The pool installer told me that is a requirement, makes it easier to exit from the deep end. The deep end is 8’, but because of the sloping walls, the floor decreases to a much smaller area.

It’s an inground, 19,500g., composite walls, semi-hard bottom, with a ladder at the deep end.

Is it really standard to have those slopes?

What prepared food (fast food, take-out, etc.) had you not had for a long time for whatever reason, but when you did have it again, it was exactly as good as you remembered it?

Sending out a goodbye email when it’s time to go…

What are your thoughts on these?

I’ve seen farewell emails from people I’ve worked with, some send them to one or two people, and bcc everyone else. Some send out an email, but everybody is in either in the To: section or they’re cc’d. What that happens, we’ll see the responses from many, many people.

I have mixed feelings about both of these, both receiving them, and whether I should send one out after 30 years.

Your thoughts?

Using up PTO days vs getting them paid out.

The place I work allows you to accumulate your vacation time up to what you earn for two years. In other words, if you get 24 days a year, you can accumulate 50. Many soon-to-be retirees here will use them up in their last couple of months.

The two biggest benefits are, you still accumulate even more PTO during that time, plus you’re not getting hit with the taxes from a big lump sum.

Any sick time you accumulate, you can only get paid out for half of that.

In my opinion, the only negative to taking all the time off is, the place I work cannot even start the replacement process until after you’ve actually reached your official last day. But that’s on them.

Anyone have something similar in their place?

What is a short message or a single statement that somebody said to you that helped you avoid what you’d consider a big mistake when it came to your house renovations?

I was strongly considering glass panels around my new deck when someone at work asked me if I had lawn sprinklers in my backyard. I said yes, why?

He said you’re going to be constantly wiping them down to keep the water spots off the glass.

I noped out of those glass panels immediately.
