So (by blind luck) in a sea of thousands, maybe millions of fans, your Oshi picks you to be their husband. Your parasocial dream has been fulfilled, and now you live on cloud nine with your new wife.

But what happens to the others, who weren't chosen?

In a recent post, I mentioned how down bad I am for Vestia Zeta, and how she's been living rent-free in my mind. I'm currently unemployed and stuck at home all day, and she's been a beacon of hope during this hikikomori phase.

It would be selfish to say my life sucks right now, because it's not that bad, but it's not the ideal place I want to be. Thus, daydreaming and (sleep)dreaming offer a great opportunity for escapism.

My sleep schedule sucks, and so I only dream whenever I get enough sleep. Most of my dreams highlight my underlying fears and (sometimes) past trauma. So when an actual good dream happens, I cherish it a lot. A few days ago, I struck gold and had a dream about Zeta, and I was aware of it.

The following is my recollection of that experience. It's really long, but it uplifted me and I'll keep it in the core memories folder.

--- CHAPTER 1: The Lakehouse ---

I came to my senses in a remote lakehouse, surrounded by woods for miles. Its layout was nearly identical to a lakehouse I stayed at with family. I was alone, my family's belongings were strewn around, but no sign of them.

I stayed at the (real) lakehouse last October, when it was cool and calm. But here, it was bitterly cold outside, with a raging blizzard obscuring everything. It was very reminiscent of the recently brutal winter I experienced where I live.

Luckily, the living room fireplace was active, keeping the lakehouse warm and toasty. Nearby, there's a pot of Japanese curry simmering away on the kitchen stove. It had a very inviting and familiar smell. Curry was one of the dishes my family would prepare whenever we stayed at a lakehouse.

So despite being alone, at night, I felt comfortable in this familiar setting.

--- CHAPTER 2: First Encounter ---

As I walk around the lakehouse, searching for any signs of life, I'm startled by a noise at the front door. Given my shyness and remote location, I'm wary of the presence at the door. I approach the door, knowing that whatever happens, I'd probably just wake up anyways.

As I get closer, I'm shocked to see Vestia Zeta leaning against the door. She was in her New Years outfit, clutching a dagger in one hand. She was weak and lethargic, as if the blizzard had beaten her for some time.

I open the door to let her in, and she clumsily falls into my arms. Her whole body was cold as ice: she had obvious signs of hypothermia. I ask her what happened out there, her voice was weak and trembly.

I brush off the snow on her and gently walk her towards a sofa in front of the fireplace. I tell her to stay put while I find some things to warm her up. I fetch a warm blanket from the dryer and drape it on her. I ask if she wants some hot curry from the stove; she nods yes. I fix up a bowl with some fresh rice. Next to the curry pot was a kettle of green tea (my parents like it). I hand her the curry bowl and a cup of hot tea, while I finish my inspection of the property.

Besides my family being missing, everything else looked in order. A half hour or so passed before I check on Zeta again; she finished her curry and tea. More lively and energetic, she thanks me graciously. I refill her cup of tea, and make another for myself (to fit in). I sit in a chair next to her and start some small talk. Despite social anxiety giving me a hard time, she listens intently.

--- CHAPTER 3: What's Going On? ---

Curious of this dream environment, I ask Zeta about what she's doing here, and what's going on in this "dream" world.

She explained that the entire world is at-war against an unknown superpower, built on narcissism and egotism. Some of the worst, most detestable people, managed to form a hivemind together. They swept across the globe, indoctrinating people to their cause. If you refused, you were exterminated.

A rebellion formed to oppose the regime. Corporations that didn't bow down to the regime joined the rebels instead. When conflict first broke out, Hololive pledged to side with the rebels. Any talents who could and wanted to fight, were sent out on missions to undermine the regime. Those who didn't (or couldn't) were transported to safe havens, where they could live peacefully and entertain other survivors. YAGOO was there to cheer on his fighters and comfort the non-fighters.

I asked Zeta about her genmates, some of my oshis, and the other talents. All of HoloID chose to fight, as did some of EN, JP, Dev_IS, and Stars. To my surprise, some talents who graduated IRL, were still active talents in this world. Rumors spread that even terminated talents, like Rushia, were assisting the rebels as a neutral party.

As for Zeta, her agent background was put to the test. As the war dragged on, her tasks shifted from reconnaissance to assassination. The regime started committing war crimes as the rebels continually fought back. Thus, Zeta and other rebels began using dirty tactics in retaliation (Zeta noted Pekora was responsible for 99% of rebel war crimes).

Zeta's latest mission was to assassinate one of the regime leaders, while they were attending a New Years party. She succeeded, but was pursued by vengeful guards for an entire day. She lost them in the wilderness, but then got lost in it herself. After nearly 2 days in the cold wilderness, she was desperate for any kind of warm shelter.

Noting her disheveled appearance, I showed the bathroom she can use to clean herself up. I offered to wash her clothes while she showered. She happily agreed.

While a bit starstruck at her appearance, I still have Zeta the privacy to remove her clothes and shower herself. She left her clothes outside the bathroom. For clothes so unusual to real life, I wondered if it was even safe to machine wash. Considering how dirty the clothes were, I figured it was best to have them cleaned regardless.

My father always bought some laundry detergent on trips like this, so I tossed in a pod and let the wash run on the delicate cycle. I stared at the machine for the half hour or so it took to wash everything. I was worried it might damage Zeta's clothes so I kept a close eye on it.

--- CHAPTER 4: Ecchi! ---

After moving Zeta's clothes to the dryer, she called me from the bathroom. She forgot to grab a towel to dry herself. I entered the bathrooom (with perms) to hand her the towel, not realizing she had exited the shower already and was soaking wet naked.

I couldn't help but notice how perfect her body was. I was expecting some scars or wounds as she was actively in combat, but there were none. I only noticed a new-ish wound on her left shin. I asked about the injury, Zeta said it was from yesterday, when she got winged by a bullet. It wasn't that painful to her, and it looked like it had been treated previously. After drying herself up, I offered to help rebandage the wound again, as I knew my mother always packed a medkit for vacations.

I'm no doctor, but the wound was mild enough that some antibiotic ointment and bandages were enough. Zeta thanked me again, and I simply responded that I'd do anything for her.

--- CHAPTER 5: All You Need is Love ---

I noticed Zeta blushing; I lightly caressed her face wondering about her expression. She pulled me close, and with an intimate tone, she complimented my benevolence for a complete stranger. She thought she would perish in the harsh weather outside, if it wasn't for me. I was apparently within regime-loyalist territory, and she feared not finding anyone inviting to rebels. She admitted having feelings for me, solely off my actions and personality.

I gave her some headpats, then admitted that the feeling was mutual. I told her how hard it was for me to find true, meaningful friends, and how I struggled with my shyness and socializing with people. I was just happy to meet her and care for her: it's the only way I can show love.

Zeta was very understanding. She elaborated on how the war made it difficult for her (and the other talents) to find relationships and pleasure outside their own circle. She wanted to cherish every bit of time with me, before she'd have to return to her duties. I remarked that with the blizzard outside, no one's gonna be looking for her anytime soon. I gave her a warm hug, inviting her to stay as long as she wants.

It had carrot, potatoes, onions, and chicken thigh meat (my favorite). By the time I finished inhaling that giant bowl of food, I walked back to the living room to find Zeta soundly asleep.

I took the dagger she left on the table and inspected it for fun, occasionally glancing over at the sleeping Zeta. That's the last thing I remember before I woke up from the dream.

I miss having dreams like this. Dreams that give you tons of energy to go out and take on the day.

Even if it was a fleeting moment, I got to live in my own fanfiction for a day and that works for me!
