I’ve been applying for IT support jobs for months with zero interviews. What am I actually doing wrong?

I’m honestly starting to lose hope and I need genuine advice, not the usual “fix your resume and network more” answer.

I finished my Cybersecurity program in Canada in August 2025 and since then I’ve been trying to get into basic IT roles like Technical Support Representative, Help Desk Technician, Service Desk Analyst, IT Support Technician, or Desktop Support. These are supposed to be the starting point into the field, but I haven’t been able to land even one proper interview.

My background is not empty. I have a Bachelor’s in Computer Applications, a Cybersecurity postgraduate certificate, hands-on IT technician experience from back home, a cybersecurity internship, customer-facing experience, and I’ve worked on Windows troubleshooting, Microsoft 365, hardware/software support, basic networking, documentation, and user support. My English and communication skills are also strong.

I’ve applied on LinkedIn, Indeed, company websites, staffing agencies, and recruiter messages. I’ve updated my resume multiple times, optimized my LinkedIn, reached out to recruiters, and tried to follow all the usual advice. Still, nothing. No calls, no interviews, no feedback.

At this point I genuinely don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. Is the market really this bad for junior IT support in Canada? Is it my experience? My work authorization? Lack of certifications? No Canadian IT job experience? Or am I targeting the wrong roles completely?

I’m not asking for sympathy. I’m asking for honest advice from people who actually work in IT, hiring, recruiting, or who went through the same thing. What would you do in my position if you needed to get your first proper IT job as soon as possible?
