1 year since my last nail break!!

(pics 1-3 are my nails currently. last 2 are my nails the day one broke + how i tried to patch it)

yesterday marked one year since i last broke a nail.

context for the last break: left thumb nail. I scratched my butt and it broke lol. it was probably already cracked, and just gave up at that moment. i very badly patched it up with a tea bag.

I'm so happy It's been this long without a break!! i used to have breaks every couple months, so this is amazing.

the only thing i changed is i actually started to take nail care seriously. like not using them as tools, stopping gel polish, wearing normal polish constantly, not peeling off the polish, oiling constantly, and filing them to a less greedy length.

i used to be very greedy with the length, just let them grow as long as they would until one broke. now i have found a balance between how long i like them and how long i can manage.

a little tip: you don't have to take every advice from nail care or do it all correctly. doing it imperfectly is better than not at all.

I have actually just started doing everything more "perfect" like 2 months ago. i used to file my nails with an emery board (despite glass files being better) and using whatever oil i had (despite jojoba being best). even with those two changes I've made, I'm still not perfect at it!! I'm often negligent about protecting them from water, like, i take long showers, even when they are naked.

so you don't have to be perfect at nail care to have pretty nails!! doing it imperfectly is better than not at all!!

I'm very happy about this achievement!! and i hope i can spend even more time without a break 😊

my first time having a cat, and I'm so in love with him

I literally just adopted him yesterday and he's already so cuddly and so sweet 🥺

he's like 2 ½ months old, so he's so so tiny

his name is michi.

the vet says he's a little malnourished but overall healthy.

he has the tiniest meow, yet he opens his mouth so big.

I'm so happy he's gotten comfortable so quickly, I was prepared for it to take a while to happen 🥰

as a former nail biter, I'm super proud of my nails

i used to bite my nails for pretty much all my life, until a little bit more than a year ago, when i just quit, cold turkey, because i wanted to have pretty nails i could paint

i didn't plan to have them this long at first, but the more they grew the more i loved them 🩷

I only started to seriously take care of them a couple months ago, and since then i haven't had any breaks!!

I'm always so proud and happy whenever people are surprised these are my natural nails 😊

please excuse how yellow they look! it's just yellowing from wearing a lot of nail polish

weekly nail care

pics are just right after an oil soak (that was roughly 5 hours), so the only product on them is a little bit of leftover sweet almond oil

just did my weekly nail care routine, it's just removing the old polish, removing the cuticle, shaping, and oil soak

i tried to make the shape slightly pointier this time, not sure if it actually looks different 😅

is it just me, or does the shape look better when they're naked? lol, it's like whenever they're painted they look too round for my taste

i still have to paint them, either this night or tomorrow

I'm also curious about other "big" routines for nail care, so feel free to share what you do and how often 😊

i underestimated cuticle remover

I had never used a cuticle remover before, i honestly thought it wouldn't make that big of a difference so i didn't bother buying one for a long time

but i was wrong!! it's actually amazing! plus, it was very satisfying to scrape off the cuticle once it softened

the remover i used is by the brand "mattiz", but it's a mexican brand so I'm not sure about it being easily available outside mexico 🫠

no products in the picture, just naked nails (how scandalous!)

before and after filing them down

the pictures are not from the same hand, first pics are my right hand (which i have not filed yet), last ones are my left (which i have filed). no products on them.

my nails had gotten longer than how i usually keep them, so i just filed them down a little!

sometimes i think about letting them get longer, but I'm afraid my hands look freakishly big, so i never leave them that long 😅

am i the only one who worries about their hands looking big?? I'm curious, maybe it's an odd thing to worry about, lol, it's not like looking big is bad...

songs that really make you "feel something"

sorry for the odd description, but i'm looking for songs that really make you feel strong emotions, like bittersweet or nostalgic. preferably kinda upbeat? like not slow/calm songs like ditto.

for example:

run by bts

cosmic by red velvet

blue valentine by nmixx

i am by ive

rebel heart by ive

inner child by bts

bet on me by itzy

run away by txt

forever by baby monster

thanks in advance!!

finally did an oil soak!

It's my first time doing an oil soak! i used a cleaned out hand mask (so pretty much gloves with a thin fabric layer inside), and just slathered my nails in oil. i kept them on for like 3 hours

my nails have so many clear spots!!! it makes me happy 😊 that means they're healthy as far as I've heard!

I'll definitely include this in my routine from now on 💅

i love a sheer pink 🩷

this is uña milagrosa by apple! it's a strengthener that's a very sheer pink. I did three coats 🩷

for the photos, i put oil to try and make it look shinier 😅

I've missed seeing my naked nails. I actually really like the visible nail line! but i can't keep them naked or I'm afraid they'll break. I would use a clear polish, but they're a little bit stained, so a sheer one it is 🙂‍↕️

first two pics are my left hand, last two are right hand

i'm unsure if my shaping is ok, do they look okay? I'm afraid they might be crooked or uneven

the middle finger in my right hand is crooked, so I'm always unsure of how to shape it. should i just follow the crooked fingertip? or try to make it look straighter by following the knuckle?
