Blanco guy finally trying Fortaleza Reposado
Managed to score both of these this past week on two different days, which made for a pretty good week. I’ve enjoyed Fortaleza Blanco numerous times and it’s become one of my favorite tequilas, so I’ve been wanting to get my hands on the Reposado for a while to see how it compares.
I’m definitely a blanco guy. My current Tier 1 favorites are Fortaleza Blanco, Tapatío Blanco, Siembra Valles Blanco, Don Fulano Blanco, G4 Blanco, El Tesoro Blanco, LALO, and Cascahuín Blanco. I tend to gravitate toward bright cooked agave, black pepper, minerality, citrus, herbal notes, and a long, clean finish. I overwhelmingly prefer agave-forward profiles over sweeter vanilla or caramel-heavy pours.
For those of you who love Fortaleza Reposado, what’s the best way to approach it? Side-by-side with the blanco? Let it open up in the glass for a bit? Any tasting notes or things I should be paying attention to as someone whose palate naturally leans toward blancos?
