Ok, I'm going to ask the dumb questions!

So recently there have been a couple of YouTubers talking about 11m and what it could be like and the desire for legal 100w power etc.

They all mentioned amps and people talking over one another being loudmouths etc and they talked about being legal and enjoying DX!

So my (rambling) question, in the current situation heading towards the solar minimum where radio conditions for 11m aren't spectacular for years on end do people really manage dx contacts on SSB ? Do I have to stick to channels 36 to 40? SSB works on 14 or 12 too as far as I can tell. How do you call? I know how to do it on ham bands but what's the custom on 11m? Just throw your number out repeatedly until someone hears you? Change channels when big amp guys arrive and take the piss out of the little guy trying barefoot? Is this what everyone does? Thanks for reading.

My first ever DX today!

Today I built my second antenna ever, a T2LT. Once in the air, I read the SWR and was happy that it didn't need adjustments. I plugged in my bearcat 980 and after a few minutes I made a contact in Arkansas. All the way from north east Ohio. This is only important because it was my first ever contact that's not someone really close to me just down the highway. It can be done! I'm so happy and excited! Have a wonderful day everyone -1412NorthEastOhio

Question about height of antennas

I've seen lots of ham radio videos on YouTube where the antennas have been ground mounted for example on 20 m. So why can we not use ground mounted antennas on 11 m for example a large Yogi that's not 30 ft into the air. In the context of DX?

Hi everyone, I'm an assistant secretary and I need to find out dates of degrees for a couple of brothers who are planning dual membership of a nearby lodge. The lodge secretary of the lodge they are joining has a form that requests this information along with whether they are up to date on dues which they are.

So, I'm good with IT stuff but I can't find the dates of degrees anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find this info in Grand View? One of the brothers is fairly new is joined within the last three years, the other one has been a mason for decades so I wouldn't be surprised if his data is not on their. But where should I look? Thanks.

I've installed CDE through Sparky Linux but I can't open anything that doesn't come with the window manger. So the calculator works but the Terminal does not. I need the terminal in order to install libre office. The error I get is An attempt to execute the following command failed: Libreoffice. Check that the program exists, has the correct permissions and is executable.

How do I do this?

I found the terminal icon but all that happens is the yellow minus sign to the right of desktop Two flashes five times and the terminal doesn't open.

I'm interested in using this old thing, but either it's just too old for what I'm trying to do OR I just don't know what I'm doing.
