For those of you who saw my post two weeks ago: the tan 88" is on it's way to JC British in Colorado. Unfortunately we didn't have room for two on the trailer and I didn't have the time or manpower swap over the safari top.

[US] 1972 Land Rover Series III 88" - Looking for Resto Help

I'm looking for someone to help get my late father's Rover roadworthy again. It's in Upstate NY and I live in Colorado. I'm hoping to find someone in between.

1972 Series III 88" - Tan

Rovers North refurbished petrol engine installed ~1997

Galvanized steel frame, soft-top hoops and canvas.

The last time it ran was 2017. Some things that I know it needs:

  • Clutch master cylinder
  • Springs and shocks
  • Drivetrain seals/gaskets
  • Tires and lots of little stuff.

My goal isn't to get this to showroom quality, my goal is to have it reliably start and stop, and have it painted so that it's presentable. I know that there is going to be a lot more to do beyond what is identified above to get it fully roadworthy. It will also come with a lot of OEM gaskets and parts.

197X Series III 88" - Red

Equipped with a safari top, the fenders, engine block, and other original parts are in the back or in the basement.

What happens to this Rover is open negotiation. It could be a parts car, it could be traded for labor on the tan Rover, or I would accept pubic offers.

If you are, or have any suggestions for, interested shops or skilled hobbyists looking for a project, please let me know. This is a paid "at your leisure" project and 2-5 years would be a fine turn around time.

The Backstory:

Throughout my childhood, my dad always had a few Rovers. We had 109s, 88s, early Range Rovers, and an S1 Discovery. All of them were well equipped and we off-roaded often. The smell of burnt mud on the exhaust will always stick with me.

Around 1996, my dad found this tan Rover. My sister and I piled into the Range Rover and drove to Old Lyme, CT. My dad traded a 486 DOS computer for it. Through the dot-com bust, the 88 became his primary car. Driving through the New England winters, my sister and I would be freezing in the back on the bench seats. As my dad described it, "The heater is as good as an old lady breathing on your leg". Never have I ridden in a more uncomfortable vehicle, but there is just something about The Rover that I can't let go.
