The first time I caught my cake day.

This is the first time I've ever caught my cake day. I love this community and I'm happy to have a little reason to celebrate today.

What would be your hobbit gifts?

Hobbits give gifts on their birthdays. Hobbits love gifts. I think one of the primary reasons Frodo didn't celebrate his birthday alongside Bilbo in the story is it would bankrupt him to give away so many, haha. I wonder, what would those gifts be? Plant starts, jams, books, cheese, wood carvings.. what do you think some hobbit gifts would be? What would you hope to give and get as a hobbit?

It's my cake day! I'll reply to every comment with the hobbit gift I'd give you based on your username.

The little way I keep him alive.

"Can you tell me the name of that one song? Where I dream?"

Today, as I worked on a project my son sat on the couch, listening to music with his new headphones. He saved up for them, it's the first thing he connected to Bluetooth himself and he wanted the name of a song. I wasn't sure which one he meant and asked him to hum a bit. Instead, he raised his hands and waved them side to side. Life goes on.

I listen to Oliver in the car and lately he's become so interested in his music. I watched him plug in the name and begin to bob his head. To my son, Oliver is still alive. He is an artist he is learning about. A musician who makes songs that move him. Someday I will have a conversation with him. Someday he will feel the pain familiar to all music lovers, the sadness that a brilliance you have found is finite. But for now, there are many songs to learn. For now he feels the joy of exploration. In my son's brand new headphones, Oliver is alive.

Cracked by my Father-in-law

My Father-in-law asked to borrow my signed first edition of Mrs. Kennedy and Me by Clint Hill and Lisa McCubbin. Clint Hill is the special agent that can be seen holding onto the back of the presidential limo the day Kennedy was killed. I'm a history nerd and was fortunate enough to correspond with Mr. Hill. This signed copy was sent to me after.

My Father-in-law, after learning about this over dinner, enthusiastically asked to borrow the book. When he returned it a month later I found the spine cracked, the pages dog-eared and the covers curved (from reading it in one hand). Luckily, it loses none of its sentimental value but I won't be borrowing out anymore books to him. 🫠

Wait.. are we naming or answering?

I hope this is ok to ask. When people ask what an aesthetic would be called is it like a "what would YOU call it" or "tell me just the actual name" question?
