I was taking my midnight shower last night as one normally does.

Had my bathroom lights on for a while before I decided to hop in the shower. (the window is decently wide and clear glass, facing the adjoining road but high enough you’d only see neck and above)

Went to the window to grab my shampoo and body wash, and realised I’d managed to pull a small crowd of guys on scooters parked up outside, looking up to the window, waiting for a kulli scene lmao. 🌚 I know you saw me 👀

A minute later all of them seemed to have scattered.🙃 well, sorry to disappoint you lads, it’s just old me (a guy) taking his shower.
Trust me, the disappointment is mutual. (Though, having an audience would’ve made my shower entertaining lol)

I am quite new here and new to Indian finance in general, been an NRI for a while.

So a year and half ago, I had gone through a private NBFC for a loan and after a month or two, it finally went through and got the loan amount credited. ( as usual they went above and beyond to make the whole process a hassle, to say the least. )

Now this week they started reaching out to me via WhatsApp ( they have been using this same unsecured channel the whole time, even to send and receive sensitive documents throughout the process) asking for my Aadhaar copy and PAN Card copy with my signature for a routine KYC verification.

Now from the information available online, these NBFC which operates under RBI rules and regulations should not need an unmasked copy of my UIDAI for KYC unless I am receiving any subsidies or requesting a change on my account details. So I did as stated, I sent them a masked copy of my Aadhar card along with my signature and a slight opacity watermark saying only for the use of NBFC KYC verification. The QR code and main digits and text remain completely legible.

A day or two later, the same team member comes back to me saying this has been rejected ( not sure by whom or what ) and that they require an unmasked Aadhar copy.

I have tried explaining it to him and also requested him to send me a proper email from a registered official email address but he insists on still needing this unmasked copy and hasn’t emailed me either.

Today he finally sent me an email address on WhatsApp, which seems to be valid and official, and asked me to share my docs there if I am not to trust the WhatsApp platform.

Answer I am looking for

- am I right in refusing to share my unmasked UIDAI copy or do they legitimately require it?

- It’s not solely about whether he’s an actual employee or not (as a visit to the nearby office would quickly clear that up) but more importantly, is this the right procedure or is it just someone that can’t hassle to do it correctly.

Ngl, there’s also a small amount of pleasure for me to hassle them back for being a PIA for me.
