Housing market really softening

Lots of inventory sitting even in Seattle proper now. Even low 1M property sitting in QA, Montlake and Ballard. 30 year bonds at decade highs.

The winds are definitely changing.

How’s Upper Queen Anne south slope?

Thinking of buying a SFH 2500 sqft or so there for under 1.5M around St Anne’s. I think area has a lot of potential once Sonics returns.

Terrible idea with the local Seattle economy?

Housing market softening on Eastside

What’s the cause for the recent housing market slowdown on Eastside? It seems much sharper than Seattle proper. Prices have dropped about 8% for May year over year on the Eastside according to NWMLS. Inventory is building up rapidly. If it’s just interest rates, wouldn’t the impact be same across the region?

The tents are sprouting like mushrooms this month

Honestly I’m a little surprised given the World Cup is two weeks away. If it’s like this with the World Cup, what’s it going to be like after the gaze of the World Cup?

Driving around the city, places that didn’t have tents or encampments during peak Covid, now have large tents some with wood reinforcement.

I’m actually impressed the real estate market is holding up the way it has with 7% rates, tech layoffs and now encampments everywhere across the city. Or is this the lag from the diehard buyers who have been overbid for years…

Rumors of 10k Microsoft layoffs in July.

I feel like sentiment is changing quick

Bond market going wild. Will be interesting to see impact of housing market with 7% rates and AI uncertainty. Was speaking to a real estate agent friend a week ago and she was feeling winds of change and rushing to get clients to list as soon as possible.

Was in both China and Japan recently and counted one person in China out of the thousands of Asian men I saw that had any sort of facial hair. Zero in Japan.

You look at paintings of emperors in China across several dynasties and they all had mustaches, goatees, a few with a full on beard. Same with the Meiji Emperor. Romance of Three Kingdoms all portray the protagonists with facial hair, in particular Zhang Fei and Guan Yu. So the underlying culture does not seem to be antagonistic to facial hair. There are even many Chinese characters for different types of beards. Sun Yat-sen and Chiang Kai-shek both had mustaches.

So why did facial hair completely die out in modern times for China and Japan? I know some Asian men have trouble growing a lot of facial hair, but the Chinese are a varied bunch and I know there are probably tens to hundreds of millions who can. Do Chinese and Japanese women just not like them?

Check out Zhou Enlai’s beard in his younger days:
