Turn off your ANC

Seriously. If you have Active Noise Cancelling, and have a modified exhaust of any sort… disable the ANC. I thought for sure I needed an additional resonator in the line somewhere, but turns out the noise cancellation was ADDING noise to the cabin because the pipes pissed it off. Cabin got so much quieter after disabling ANC with alfaobd. Why would noise cancellation make the cabin louder you ask? Yeah, me too. But it did. It’s much better turned off. I haven’t found a reason yet to wish it was turned on. For reference sake, 21 tradesman with base 6-speaker system, 4” pipe front to back with an MBRP muffler inline about the middle. So, so, so much less noise in the cab without noise cancellation.

Back glass unique for ‘65?

I’ve heard, but not confirmed, that the back glass on a ‘65 2 door fastback is one of a kind… that no other years outside of ‘65 and no other model is compatible. Can anyone confirm that this is fact? I need to acquire both front and back glass for mine, and want to be sure how strict my search needs to be.

‘65 fastback

Just acquired this for a full build. PO stripped it bare and sent to paint, and the rest (including correcting some paint issues) will be my task. Came with much of the not-installed parts, though not all and most will need at least some refreshing. Going to be fun!

240z tow hitch

Was asked by a couple of folks to share, this is my tow hitch for the ‘72 240z. Bolts to the bumper, with a steel plate inside the bumper distributing the load a bit more, and to the diff crossmember.

This hitch has been used to tow a trailer all over the western US… towing motorcycles, picking up engines and other car parts, and more. Obviously not a real high weight capacity, but a couple thousand pounds total trailer weight that’s properly distributed is no problem at all.

It is a custom fabrication. Dad had it made in the 80’s, and used the hell out of it.

‘68 GTX tribute

Don’t have it anymore, sure miss her. ‘68 Sport Satellite, originally a 318 car, swapped to 440. Splendid way to drive between gas stations.

What we do for love

Dad bought this ‘72 in ‘74, and it has been well loved and enjoyed ever since. It became ours about 10 years ago, and I strive to keep it in the best shape I can, while only changing what needs changing to improve the car. These 3-piece epsilon wheels have been on it since roughly the time I was born in the mid 80’s, so I’m not looking to change that. After finding one center cracked, I had to dig around the internet and find a suitable replacement face, and am now in the process of refinishing it so I can fix the bad wheel while also not significantly changing the look of the Z. Luckily, there still exists a community of people collecting, refurbishing, or reselling Epsilon wheels which stopped being manufactured in the early 90’s. 2 rounds of aircraft remover and pressure washing later, it’s another round or two before ready for paint! Had to strip it both to be sure the metal was good, and also because the existing paint was chipped and fresh paint would show that texture once done.

Here’s hoping it comes out nice. It’ll probably not match the other 3, but my plan is to also paint (without stripping) the cracked face and see how that turns out. If good, then I’ll paint the other 3 to have a matched set without significant visual change from what was. If it doesn’t come out good, I’ll pay a powder coating shop to strip and coat all 4 good faces. My wallet hopes painting works out, haha.

10 tons of “I wasn’t asking”

Hubs are fun. This harbor freight 10-ton puller made it pretty easy. The rotor was actually harder to get off than the hub, but the puller dealt with that guy for me, too.

From what I can determine, they are Southern Ways Epsilon wheels, 3-piece, 16” x either 7 or 7.5. Trying to be sure without dismounting a tire, and trying to be sure what the offset is. I measure 4.5” backspacing from the hub face to a straightedge resting on the inside bead.

Anyone with better google-fu than me, who can determine anything better from the casting marks?

Got the clutch cylinder swapped and bled, had to get out in the wind. Today was a good day.

Went to drive the Z, no clutch. Turns out the MC has been leaking slowly for some time… of course we all know how brake fluid treats paint, so now my engine bay is missing paint, as is a portion of the inside of the firewall. My bad for not noticing sooner.

At least Dad was serious about his cars and kept collections of parts, so I already have a NOS MC to put in, and it’s a short job.
