Sansui G-4500

Sansui G-4500

Picked this up yesterday and everything works except the lights. I did have to deoxit but that's par for the course. I might replace the filter caps. Not sure yet, on the fence since it is working and sounds great.

Now my question: did some research and this model and other Sensui models that are of this vintage and size, do not have a protection relay. They rely on a muting function that is supposed to mute pops and they also rely on fuses. From what I was reading that's not so great.

I did some other research and you can buy an external protection relay. They're about $150 or so and it protects your speakers (in this case nht 1.5s). Do I really need this or am I worrying too much?

Dogma

Several chaos magick podcasts I have listened to recently seem to be advocating for dogma and adherence to formal practices. For example: On the spirit box podcast, in the Luceferian episode, the guest basically said that you couldn't really be a Luceferian unless you had a strong background in Christianity. This kind of shocked me. Why does this person think they know the answer? As we all know, the answer is unknowable.

My stance is simple: No one really knows what they are doing. Lets use the grimoire as an example. Folks will say they are adhering to the practice because they are students of the grimoires. Problem is these grimoires are often incomplete or very open to interpretations. So the folks following to a tee are really just following someone's best guess or at worse, someone's biases. Which means they are not adhering to anything formal. They might as well use a fictional magical tome.

With that in mind, the authority does not come from rules or teachings. It comes from what we do with those teachings etc and how we use them to get results. They serve us, we do not serve them.

I also think this reverence for dogma over shadows new ideas. As they can sometimes seem antithetic and so they are ignored or just glossed over.

Not sure what my point is other than I am curious what other folks think?

Losing belief

Update: much if not all of the replies have resonated in someway with me. I don’t think I’m done with the journey.

Have not been practicing long but have had positive results, confusing results, and many coincidences. However, lately I’ve gotten skeptical. Got into my head that it is silly or childish? Like I can’t see the fun (and the wink/nod) in it anymore

Anyone else run into this?

Picked this up yesterday. Got it home and the protection relay was buzzing before clicking on (I already knew this) and it was leaking DC current through the speaker terminals (this I didn’t know). It was on the edge from a speaker safety stand point.

Worked on it and got the dc current to .07 on the left and .04. So very happy with that. Tried cleaning the relay but the buzzing didn’t go away before clicking on. Discovered if I let it sit for 5 min and then turn off/on there is no buzzing. So I’m thinking maybe cold solder joints and the protection relay needs to be replaced

What do folks think?
