[Promo] PopCalc 1.2.0: Scientific calculator & Unit converter finally arrived

Last time I shared PopCalc, the calculator where every number is sculpted and every tap has weight, two requests rose above everything else: a scientific calculator and unit conversion.

Both just landed in 1.2.0.

Scientific calculator

Tap f(x) in the top bar to switch between simple and scientific keys.

  • Powers, roots, brackets, π, e, factorial, trig with DEG/RAD, logs, and a 2nd key for inverses
  • In degrees, `sin 180` is exactly 0 and `tan 90` says "Not defined"
  • Brackets close themselves, and `2π` multiplies automatically
  • Every kind of key has its own sound and feel

Unit converter

  • Swipe through units like a slider and feel each notch click into place
  • 10 categories, from length and temperature to data and energy, all with exact conversion factors
  • Feel every tap, even more
  • Stronger haptics on phones with weaker vibration motors
  • A brand new launch sound

It's all still 100% offline, with no ads, no account, and zero data collected. Turn on Scientific & Converter in Settings to try it.

PopCalc is still in closed beta, and I'll drop how to join in the comments.

This update came straight from your requests, and I'm just getting started. What should I build next? Drop your ideas below.

[BETA TESTER NEEDED] PopCalc - A calculator where every number has depth

I'm trying to redesign everyday apps into clean, minimal looking UI.

Type a digit in PopCalc and it grows out of the screen as a bold 3D shape with a little

spring to it. Hit equals and the result morphs into something big, with a haptic tap on

every key. Underneath it's just a normal calculator, percentages work correctly, decimals

are exact, nothing fancy. The fancy part is just how it looks and feels to use.

It's my first solo app, built in Flutter, currently in closed testing (Google requires

a handful of real testers before letting an app go public). If you like poking at new

apps before everyone else does:

  1. Join the tester group: https://groups.google.com/g/popcalc
  2. Opt in on the web: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.ornobaadi.popcalc
  3. Install from Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ornobaadi.popcalc

Laid Off 5 Months Ago. Looking for Career Advice

I was laid off from my remote Full-Stack Developer role at a Singapore startup after almost a year because the company downsized or wasn't profitable. It's been about five months, and despite applying consistently, I still haven't been able to land my next role.

I graduated from North South University with a B.Sc. in CSE, and I mainly work with React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, Express, MongoDB, and Tailwind CSS. Most of my experience has been on the frontend.

I've had a few interviews, but none have turned into offers. At this point I'm wondering if the market is just this competitive, or if there's something I should be doing differently.

For those who were in a similar situation:

  • What helped you finally land your next role?
  • Is the market really this bad, or am I missing something?
  • If your company is hiring React/Next.js or Full-Stack developers, I'd really appreciate it if you could keep me in mind.

I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback or suggestions from the community. Thanks!
