Question about lipedema fat

Question about lipedema fat

I recently read an article that seemed to be distinguishing lipedema fat cells from regular fat cells.

My understanding of fat is that you have the number of fat cells you have, and they get bigger when you gain, and shrink when you lose.

But I was understanding this article as the lipedema body is creating another type of fat distinct from a normal fat cell?

Am I understanding this correctly? I'm sorry I lost the link to the article.

Edit: OK I'm understanding about the fat precursor cells and the role their disfunction plays in the creation of lipedema fat tissue.

I found the statement that had me confused and the article: “The global molecular profiles we characterized in lipedema uniquely distinguish lipedema from normal fat and define it as a distinct disease tissue.”

Petco Budgie- a cautionary tale

I knew better than to go to a pet store like this. I recently acquired a found budgie, and he was so clearly lonely I felt I couldn't wait.

I picked my cutie out at Petco.

The first few days, I wasn't sure if he was stressed or a little sick. The next few days, he seemed OK, but still watching his nostrils as they were a little crusty and he pants after flying. Still I thought- he hasn't much experience with flight, its probably normal to have to build up strength.

Then things went downhill.

He has a respiratory infection, giardia, cryptosporidium.

Vet wants another $350 to do a crypto test so they can ascertain whether it's a not dangerous cryptosporidium or whether it's a bad one that can also infect my other pets and us too.

My experience dealing with petco on this has been shocking. I mean, unbelievable. Truly.

If anyone has experience with crypto or giardia I'd love to hear your experience.

I took in an escaped budgie a few weeks ago. Although he has lots of out of cage time and company (I work from home) I could tell he was lonely.

Against my own better judgement I purchased a budgie from Petco. Against advice everywhere I did not quarantine. They made fast friends and moved in together. (They have 2 options)

I've had the petco budgie for 11 days. I've noticed some orange flags during this time that I've been keeping an eye on- a little panting after zoomies, a little dry discharge in the nostrils, a little sneezing- nothing exactly alarming but enough to give pause.

This morning i saw undigested seeds in his poop, looked it up, saw it is serious- took to vet.

Vet confirmed a respiratory infection by xray and has given abx. Waiting on fecal test to see what is causing GI issues.

Bird 1 is a little sneezy but not noticing any other yellow flags.

Here's what I'm hoping to get advice about-

I have them in separate cages but I do not have a secondary room for sick bird that makes sense.

Am I just absolutely fucking bird 1 by only giving them 15 feet of space and no walls and doors between?

Vet says respiratory infection is contagious, should I just treat both? I know the vet can not recommend this, but perhaps I should just go ahead and do so. They sleep next to eachother or facing one another, I feel like I could assume both have this cold.

Now, obviously if there is also a GI issue they must stay separated. But, if no GI issue is present and they're both being treated for the same thing- can they just be housed together. I see that the separation stresses both of them.

Would love some insight. Thanks in advance.
