[IWantOut] 26F US -> UK
I’ve been living in Chicago for the past 4 years and I currently make $115K USD working as a software engineer for a big finance company. I’ve recently been considering trying to move to London for the following reasons:
\- English speaking country
\- proximity to Europe so I’d be able to travel way more often
\- I like that it’s a very densely populated city with a lot of diversity. Yes Chicago has these too on a much smaller scale
\- I’m not a fan of the way the healthcare system is structured in the US but I’ve heard the NHS is better in terms of cost at least
A big hesitation I have is the lower salaries in the UK. When I did my research for mid level SWE salaries in London and I did my conversion to USD I would be taking a nearly 40-50k pay cut yet it seems like the rent prices are basically the same as what they are in Chicago?
Curious to hear from others who have made the same move or something similar!
