How common are sore knees when just starting?

Hi all,

My knees get a little sore during my introduction to couch 2 5K intervals. Is it safe to continue as long as I’m giving myself enough time to recover also, besides more running and slowly increasing my interval length and intensity what are the best exercises to strengthen the knees for runners?

Purpose of gravel top dressing?

I see a lot of growers use gravel as a top dressing. Does it provide any benefits besides aesthetics? Keeping the base of the plant above the soil a bit?

Running on grass to start?

Hi all,

I am doing intervals of 30 sec running, 1 min walking on grass. It seems like it’s lower impact than pavement. Has anyone else done this to start, and how did you transition to pavement? Any downsides?

Blood sugar slowly creeps down all night and gets low enough to wake me like clockwork at 3am

No matter what I eat, my blood sugar slowly creeps downward until it gets to about 60 at 3am, then I wake up anxious and hungry. This seems to happen regardless of what I eat in the day and before bed.

Why is it that i can’t stay asleep for more than 4 -5 hours before this happens?

Blood sugar always drops at exact same time every night 2-3am

Hi all

40 male, 159lbs, 13k steps per day, strength training 2-3x a week. H1c is 5.3

I wear a CGM and almost like clockwork regardless of if I eat a small balanced meal before bed, my blood sugar drops between 2-3am. I wake up feeling warm and a little anxious. I’ve been monitoring with a CGM to understand what can be causing this. My diet is clean, 3-4 meals a day. About 159g carbs from whole grains and veggies, 35g fiber. Moderate-high fat and high protein

It’s like my body just can’t keep my blood sugar high enough to get through the night. What could be going on?

My last meal is usually finished by 7pm, but like i said I’ve tried even a small meal before leep and it doesn’t matter

What does your diet look like while training to maintain or gain weight?

40M, 5’9. 159lbs. I don’t want to lose weight and I am trying to gain . My lipids aren’t great, high cholesterol and apoB. I also have insulin resistance. I feel like I don’t know what to eat anymore. If I cut carbs, I need to add more fats to make up for it.

How do you guys eat to gain muscle and keep insulin resistance at bay?

Insulin resistant AND high cholesterol/apoB

Hi all,

40M, 163lbs, 5’9. Whole Foods diet: meat, eggs, whole grains, veggies, some fruit. No alcohol. 12k steps a day. Strength training 2x a week. Cardio 1-2x a week

I’m trying to gain muscle. However, I don’t know how to eat anymore. I had high cholesterol and apoB, but now have signs of insulin resistance (which runs in my family + diabetes).

How would you approach diet in these circumstances?

Body needs food/carbs around 5 hours into sleep like clockwork

Hi all,

40 M here. I can’t sleep more than 4-5 hours before waking up kind of warm and hungry. This happens regardless of if I eat a snack before bed. If i eat a snack I can usually fall back asleep. Does anyone else experience this?

What’s your potting mix like for DRY and HOT climate (think AZ in summer)

My 1-5gal pots dry up in a few hours after watering them in my hot and dry climate. Right now I use a mix that is peat, perlite and a little compost. Any ideas to maintain moisture content and still have decent draining?

Thanks!

Strength training (morning sessions) negatively impacts sleep

Hi all,

40 M, experience with strength training on and off my whole life with some years off in between.

I am trying to do the bare minimum strength training since it negatively impacts my sleep. I train full body in the morning. Sessions are strictly under 1 hour and not to failure, although significant effort is made. I train every 4th day: train, 3 days, train. I do z2 cardio on at least 2 of my 3 days off. Ok nights I Strength train in the morning, I wake up every 1.5 hours feeling very warm and sometimes anxious.

I try to eat and drink plenty to recover, but am unsure why I can’t seem to handle even this bare minimum schedule.

Has anyone faced a similar problem and overcame it?

Hi all,

What would be better for body composition and nutrient partitioning: walking first thing in the morning before breakfast, brisk pace for 45 min, or after breakfast?

Thanks
