AION FX Supreaux Deux

Just another overdrive that’s got some secretly good sounds in it. I like how much variety you can get from biasing the transistors in this circuit. The build document and original has them set at 12V but I found a pretty nice sweet spot around 9.5V where you get a lot more sag similar to the PG14 but you can still get all the sounds of the Superbolt/ Supeaux Deux. For sure a keeper drive pedal

Rare-Ish Fuzz: Skreddy Lunar Module

I don’t like calling this one rare because they’re still in production haha. But I don’t see these in discussion or in the wild all that often when they should be. This is a really smart 3 transistor design that’s very adjustable. The best to describe the controls is a level, fuzz, base, transistor gain and mid range control. This allows you to go from Hendrix and Gilmour soaring leads to classic rock crunch tones. It’s cover enough ground when I feel I have to put this in a Fuzz-stortion range of pedals. With that being said, this is a killer classic rock box these deserves a lot of love!

Voltage Control?

I am messing around with the Fuzz Face circuit a bit. I was curious if I was able to replace the R3 39R with a trimpot as a voltage control for the circuit? Not sure if I would have to omit or adjust anything else

Rare Fuzz: Blackout Effectors Musket

A little earlier on my Muff Monday lol. For those DIY guys this is an AION FX PCB Zelus. Long story short, this is a Black Russian (I believe) Big Muff stacked with a controllable LPB-1 up front. There is also an input capacitor blend and a mid control to really shape this thing. Personally, this is my ultimate Big Muff.

To start, you can shape this thing from a fuzz down to an overdrive and it will even clean up with the volume knob. The LPB-1 up front seems to allow it to clean up not quite like a fuzz face but it is usable. I do love me some mids and a low cut as well and this can cover a bit more of the gain range than the EQD Hoof; although the Hoof is a bit more open and has some slightly different textures

On a side note. I really miss this company a lot. They had some amazing fuzz designs. I’d love to own or build a Twosome one day!

Rare Fuzz: EQD Black Ash

Another rare fuzz for the mix. This one I know was a limited run, the circuit isn’t too crazy. EQD take on a Tone Bender MK2 with their tweaks, flavor and a hit cut control. What I will say is damn this thing sounds like it wants to insight violence with my amp. It’s about the burliest Tone Bender I’ve played. It’s like a MK2 that sounds like a MK3-4, but still manages to clean up, can get well into amp blow up territory and has some low gain sounds as well. Really cool pedal!

Dual: Fuzz + Treble Booster

What fuzz pedals do you guys like in that department? Any specific fuzz you like stacked with it in a dual format? Or what are you favorite examples of these pedals!

Roland AF-60 Bee Gee Build

Wanted to show off another fuzz build that’s a bit of a more rare circuit. This one is based off the Roland AF-60 using the AION FX Antipode. Initially, I thought this was more of a Distortion, but this thing definitely gets really fuzzy. Interestingly, this is an old school OP amp fuzz that’s kind of an evolution gonna Distortion +. Originally I discovered this circuit when hearing JHS play some Sabbath with it in his 70’s Op Amp Distortion video and then said “ I need me some of that”. It’s got a cool sound too it! It almost touched blown out fuzz and can actually get into a nice drive sound and even clean up pretty well. Only difference between this and the original is quality of life stuff and a Big Muff tone control which is really effective in this circuit

New AION FX Tellurion is sweet!

Just put together the AION FX Tellurion that they recently released based off the Fulltone Fulldrive! Much not lie this thing is pretty darn cool! Been about 12 years since I played an original, but it sounds really good and has the AION FX quality; love me that LED clipping! So for those of you on the fence I recommend it haha

AION FX Ibex/ Roland Af-100 Bee Baa

Here is another AION FX build, the Ibex, based on the Roland hidden gem fuzz. Essentially, it’s a gnarly fuzz, with two tone setting and an internal midrange control for the scoops, biting side paired together with an interesting treble booster. I must say it’s much more unique than I imagined on my head. It’s one of those fuzz pedals that seems like it was designed to just cut through in a band setting and has a very unique sound.

New Build: Pedal PCB Gravitation Reverb

Based on the EQD Levitation. Another cool Belton Brick reverb by them that has a bit more of a vintage sound to it compared to the Ghost Echo. Something about their reverbs just play well with a rig and have some quirks that I miss when I use other reverbs. Cool build! And I’m liking the Hammertone and name plate combo I’ve worked up lately.

Side note: starting to include a sticker that are almost identical to my pedal building bichon buddy!

Expandora Forbidden Mode Fuzz

Wanted to show off a bit of a nontraditional fuzz sound. The Expandora has a real nasty, gated with heavy sustain fuzz sound to it with the drive pot disengaged. You can also vary the fuzz sound by varying signal strength as well. It’s a sound you’ll hear on a fair amount of ZZ Top and Stu G stuff. If I recall correctly, I’m pretty sure this is the Radiohead Body Snatchers sound from Live From The Basement sound as well.

This is just a DIY build I made on the Expandora using the Aion Fx Dynamo PCB. Think of the JHS Kilt but all the gain steps are on a knob. I also took out the silicon diodes and replaced them with LED’s ; my favorite. It opens it up a lot and gives the fuzz a more spitting character

BB Preamp + Red Llama Dual Build

Decided to share this dual build I was working on. Had to use the two best desserts for names; Banana Bread and Apple Pie of course. Essentially it’s an Aion Fx Perlandra and a Yacana. I did change the clipping out on the BB Preamp side for some LEDs because they just sound better to me. The Red Llama is the stock build from Aion Fx. This is a really cool drive and it for sure is an evolved version of my Hot Wax back in the day. This pedal can cover a lot of ground for me because I do a lot of MIAB and Tweed style tones and this can get into a mean fuzz territory and even a little treble booster like. This is a keeper! I am on a bit of a dual pedal building journey before I sell off a bunch of stuff and stick to the basics

Ultimate stacks for a dual pedal?

Long story short, I’m looking for you guys favorite two pedal Boost, OD, Distortion or Fuzz stacks. I realized that a good dual pedal stacks goes a long way and can cover a ton of ground if you let it. Unfortunately, a lot of the dual pedals I’ve thought about don’t exist, have been discontinued or are a bit costly to obtain so I will just have to build them. I plan on making a BB Preamp + Red Llama and a Fuzz Face + Treble Booster to start and maybe to do a console with an extra EQ section. So I was curious if there is an essential dual pedal you guys like!

Zvex Mastotron/ Woolly Mammoth- For those who don’t like Muffs

I see this question come up a bit regarding liking the Big Muff sound on records, but not liking the sounds they get with one. For me, I always like the sound, but kind of hated how Muff reacted with a volume knob and how much feedback I’d get with some guitars. Decided to try the Zvex Woolly Mammoth/ Mastotron and I think this is then perfect in between.

To start, yes I know this isn’t a real one, I built this lol. For the DIY folk it’s an Aion Fx Penumbra. The Mastotron and Woolly Mammoth are very similar and this is kind of the best features of both; Mastotron Sub switch and an optional pickup simulator instead of the push/relax control.

Anyways this thing is cool and really sounds like a Muff with the highest bass switch engaged. It puts you right in that Siamese Dream & Thickfreakness sweet spot without hesitation. Also, this thing will clean up real well, quite similar to a fuzz face. On top of that you can do some of those nasty gate sounds Dan Aurbach and Jack White mess around with. It’s kind of great! Thought I’d share!

Favorite Brands for Parts?

I’ve always kind of wondered what everyone uses as far as resistor, potentiometers, film cap and electrolytic capacitors. I mostly just one stop shop everything at Stomp Box Parts and fill in the gaps with Tayda or Mouser stuff. I know a lot of people swear by WIMA capacitors and that kind to stuff. Idk what’s the best bang for buck or worth the money?

Do you guys consider Overdriver/ Power Booster Fuzz or Overdrive

Just what the title says. This thing does a really nasty almost Tone Bender fuzz type sound. Plus it clean up like a fuzz face

Drives with a Rat tone control?

I’ve slowly learned how important tone controls are to the sound of a pedal. Is there any other pedals outside of a Rat that has the same tone control as a Rat? I know a Katzenkonig does and I believe the Soul Driver does as well
