Summer hides for practice?

Alright y'all I recently got into a new job at a local weed farm as an overnight security guard. I found that they set traps during the summer due to the amount of ground hogs, racoons, foxes, etc that destroy the plants and dig holes under the fence. The head of maintenance has asked me to check traps during my patrols and I'm wondering if this would be a great way to get into tanning some hides. My main concern is since it's summer if these hides are worth tanning or not. Seems like the bulk of them will be ground hog hides but the occasional raccoon or fox as well. I plan on doing fur on for the most part but won't shy away from doing fur off as well.

One month later : an update. (Read below)

Howdy y'all! First off Id love to share my biggest thanks to every single one of you. I was not expecting the amount of support and interest when I had made my original post. I appreciate all the advice that many of you have given as well. Anyways. Buckle in as I go through the past month and my future plans!

Firstly, we had received a bout of severe thunderstorms and tornados at the beginning of last month that had brought record breaking amount of tornados and flooding to my area. Luckily, there was only some mild flooding that had occurred around the tent and no water got into the tent. But I played it safe and dug some trenches around the edge of the tent, and placed the pallets to help limit the amount of mud my shoes bring into the tent. I just need to get a piece of plywood to place over the pallets to prevent any issues with the gaps in the pallets.

Secondly. The tarp awning works amazingly well, and has been a fantastic addition to making my little caveman camp more comfortable. I still fully intend to buy a much larger tarp to place over the tent itself once we get more consistent warm weather to help shield it from the sun, but I have not had the need for that currently as it still gets down in the 30°f range at night and 50-60°f during the day here.

Lastly. The interior has slowly evolved over the past month, with the addition of the folding table and the small fan. My mattress is placed on top of two pallets to elevate it off the floor and to make it easier getting out of bed. Some of you may notice the handgun. Recently in the past 2 weeks we have had a rather large coyote becoming far too comfortable in our yard, even being as bold as to come snooping beside my tent AS I'm sleeping inside. He even been lingering around while we are outside in the yard and while the pets are out and about. I hope nothing becomes if it but I have to keep my pets safe.

Anyways! Even though the back door of my house is only 30 yards away, I fully intend on making my little caveman camp a bit more comfortable as I anticipate I'll be out here for a majority of the summer. It's honestly been very refreshing sleeping out in the tent this past month. My only concern is the heat once the summer draws closer but I will deal with that when we reach that point. Anywho! Until next time y'all!

Alright y'all. Yesterday morning was my first time ever in kayak. (Field n stream eagle run 12ft) And needless to say I am now absolutely hooked. I kayaked and fished for 5 hours yesterday, even traversed the small creek seen in the pic to get to another lake. But here's my question now. I bought oar holders, but don't know which way to mount them. Which is better? Perpendicular across the cockpit of the kayak? Or parallel along the length of the kayak?
