Inspiring/motivational Bowie quotes or lyrics that got you through the lowest moments of your life?

I don’t really know why I’m posting this, but I’m going through one of the lowest points in my life right now. My industry has been doing really badly, and none of my job interviews have gone the way I hoped. There are barely any openings for juniors, and I’ve been unemployed for almost a year now.

One thing I am grateful for, though, is getting into David Bowie. He’s genuinely been a lifesaver for me lately. Life has felt a little more joyful ever since I started listening to his music. I look forward to waking up and putting his songs on every morning, listening while I work, watching old interviews and performances… there’s always something there that helps distract me from all the doubts and regrets constantly circling in my head.

Sorry if this is getting a bit personal lol, but the line “The gods forgot they made me, so I forgot them too” from Seven hits especially hard for me right now.

I’m sure a lot of you have also found comfort, healing, or motivation through Bowie’s music at some point, so I wanted to ask: do you have any favorite Bowie quotes or lyrics that helped you through your darkest moments?

How popular was Bowie in non-English-speaking countries?

My mom was born in the ’70s in Korea, and she told me she knew about David Bowie, but the only song she really recognized was Starman. According to her, Bowie wasn’t that popular among Korean students at the time. She said girls were more into bands and artists like New Kids on the Block, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, and other boy bands, so she didn’t really hear Bowie’s name or songs much growing up.

Reading posts on this subreddit, I always hear people talk about songs like Rebel Rebel and Golden years getting constant radio play, but I guess that wasn’t really the case in Korea during the ’80s. Maybe that’s also part of why Bowie never toured Korea 😭

I’m pretty sure Bowie was popular in Japan since he did commercials and TV appearances there, but now I’m curious — how popular was he in other non-English-speaking countries?

Are these dr martens?

This is a photo of David Bowie from the 70s. Does anyone recognize this model? Not even sure if they’re dr martens though…

Anyone Else Want / bought Something Just Because Bowie Had It?

Have you ever bought, or wanted to buy, a product because of him?
For example, for me, I really want the Longines watch Bowie wore during the Let’s Dance era…

One month into Bowie

My apple music replay for April! I’ve always known David Bowie and how great of a musical figure he is but i’ve never really dived deep into his discography until last month. Now I spend every minute and hour with Bowie’s music. I’m a 22 y/o 😄. He's truly an amazing artist😭
