3 weeks in japan

This question comes up quite often and I followed the most common recommendations, especially from posts that were 1-2 years old.

My itinerary focused largely on hiking and walking near cities (Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo, Nara...). I tried 3 services that gave me quite controversial results.

First, I tried Airalo, it was a-w-f-u-l. I'd lose connection every few minutes anywhere in Tokyo, I spent like 1 or 2 hours with their support doing pointless troubleshooting and going back and forth with settings, eventually they said 'oh, this must be a blind spot, do you plan on moving to another area of the city?'.

Like, I'm in Akihabara wdym its a low connectivity area? Insane. Similar issues would happen anywhere throughout Tokyo randomly, I'd be walking and I'd lose connection for no good reason.
Support was... okay? They refunded me like 99.3% of the price I paid (congrats on keeping like.. a few cents? I had used some MBs worth of data so they said they wouldn't refund it, which I don't really care, it's just a weird thing to do when the amount is this small).

So.. I then tried 1global eSims, which have a VERY negative sentiment here on reddit (I bought through revolut) and guess what? I had zero issues, not on any city, not on any hiking path. Coverage was very good in my experience.

However, given the bad reviews, I was afraid of being in the middle of nowhere with no data, so I bought another esim from ubigi and.. it worked fine but, here is the catch, I bought it as a backup plan. I ended up not using it outside of the initial tests.

Overall, I don't doubt people has had bad experiences with 1global/revolut esims in japan but at the same time, I have a hard time believing many of the Airalo reviews are genuine (especially if you look at recent feedbacks rather than the top results you find on google).

My takeway? Don't trust the most recommended providers, especially on aged posts that are well established on google.

Are badges gone?

Walked 65k steps on a single day.

I was hoping to get a badge or notification, nada, just the ai coach telling me that my vitals suggest I could push it further (leave me alone bruh).

Stupid DRM won't let me play downloaded series

Downloaded a bunch of animes back in my country, now I'm travelling and these fucks have removed the session of the downloaded episodes?? I can't renew the session, not because I don't have enough details or anything but because they won't let me on an eSim.

Not much to say, they taste exactly as advertised, so there are no surprises there.

The texture is good. My only real critique is the taste (bear with me): I feel like the flavor isn't super consistent between chips in the same bag.

As a result, some bites have a heavy concentration of seasoning, making the taste of those bites too strong for me, especially the sour cream & onion.

I'd recommend shaking the bag well before opening and eating them. Otherwise, these are amazing.

I'd say that if you eat a whole bag, you won't feel as full as you would with a bar or shake, but it's still satisfying enough imo.

As for a negative? Maybe the use of E340i, which is very easy to over-consume given how common it is in everyday products but, at the same time, most ingredient scanning apps seem to fearmonger against anything with additives, so take this critique with a pinch of salt.

My review of the mini 1 - 1.5 months

I start by saying that I don’t regret buying it, but I can see why some people might have buyers remorse after a while.

The Auk Mini looks great. It’s clearly designed to blend in as a piece of furniture rather than a purely functional grow system, and that shows in everything, I personally really enjoy how it looks and how everything is presented. That's about all the positives I can share, I think that on every other bench, it falls short.

The biggest issue I have is the lack of proper automation. If you want the system to start at a specific time (say 5 AM), you actually need to be there at that exact moment to initiate the cycle.

There’s no persistent scheduling. If you turn it off by mistake, lose power, or move it, everything resets and you have to set it up again. Wifi or even bluetooth chips are super cheap so honestly, given the price range, it's disappointing.

Water resistance is another weak point. On the first day, I spilled a small amount of wate on the surface (filtered water, nothing harsh, no nutrients or anything on the mix) and it left visible marks on the wood.

That’s pretty.. disappointing for a product that’s going to deal with moisture or spills from time to time.

Basil is doing okay, tomatoes are growing fine, but parsley is struggling and the chili seeds haven’t germinated at all.

I have another system from a different brand in the same room, and that one is performing MUUUCH better, its ugly but everything grows faster and with a better success rate.

Then, this might just be me nit picking or saying nonsense but there’s no water pump, which likely affects how nutrients are distributed to some extent.
I can’t say definitively how much impact this has, but I think it’s reasonable to assume that circulation would help.

The lighting is aesthetically pleasing, but it feels like it prioritizes ambiance over intensity, so this might be another reason for the system to under perform when compared to the other system I have.

Kinda hyped about the source cream & onion flavor. Might this be a replacement to pringles? 😭 , holding my expectations here but damn.
