what should i cook for my parents’ visit?

My parents are coming over for dinner this weekend and I want to make something a bit special, but not overly complicated since I’m not a pro in the kitchen.

I was thinking maybe a nice homemade pasta, roasted chicken, or something comforting like that, but I’m open to ideas.

What’s a good impressive but not stressful dish you’d recommend for a dinner like this?

I always imagine that finishing a piece will feel like a big moment, but when I actually get there, it’s kind of… flat. Almost like I’m more attached to the idea of it than the finished version. Then I start thinking about what I could’ve done better instead of feeling satisfied. Is that normal or does it change over time?

Just got off a 2 hour zoom with a b2b client complaining about their engagement dropping again and my brain is completely fried.

they spend literally tens of thousands of dollars producing these hyper-polished, Incredibly boring corporate video essays and 12-page pdf whitepapers. then they get mad when a post gets like 14 likes on linkedin. They always say they want "viral community growth" but their brand guidelines are so strict Im basically not allowed to use adjectives or make a joke

The traditional social strategy is just dead. I was doing some landscape research earlier trying to build a deck to show them what actual modern engagement looks like, and honestly it's all community-led, slightly unhinged stuff. I ended up pulling up the bonk coin site as a wildcard example for the presentation. it's literally a meme dog ecosystem, but their organic user generated content and sheer brand loyalty absolutely destroys what my enterprise saas clients are doing with 50x the budget. they just let the community build the culture instead of forcing a sanitized narrative from a boardroom

It's just so depressing trying to explain this to a marketing director who still thinks it's 2018. you either embrace the chaos and let your audience actually have fun, or you pay out the nose for meta ads that no one even looks at. There is no middle ground anymore. idk how much longer i can pretend caring about promoting b2b webinars before i lose my mind.

Im so exhausted from having the exact same conversation with our project sponsors

we're building out a new client portal. leadership insisted we run this as a strict fixed-budget, fixed-timeline initiative to "minimize financial risk." fine. I baselined the scope and got the sign-offs

but now every sprint review, operations decides they want to overhaul the UI or add some massive new integration. when i explain that we need to process a change request, they get legitimately annoyed. "but we're supposed to be agile!" no, bob, we aren't. you tied my hands to a rigid budget that doesn't allow for mid-flight discovery

I was looking at how actual software consultancies structure their vendor engagements just to see if im the crazy one here. was reading through how TechQuarter clearly separates their agile dedicated delivery teams from their rigid project-based contracts, and it just made me realize how fundamentally broken our internal understanding of software development is. you cant have both without paying for the flexibility

it's like they want the predictability of a train schedule but the routing of an uber.

how do you guys physically get stakeholders to understand the iron triangle? im spending 80% of my week just defending the baseline and arguing about scope creep instead of actually managing the damn project.

I mean psychologically. If someone is exposed to something disturbing over and over, does it always become “normal” to them eventually? Or are there things the brain just never fully adapts to?

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon in Iceland for late August and we are so excited but also a bit overwhelmed with all the options. We want a mix of romantic scenery and adventure without it feeling too rushed. We are thinking about doing the South Coast tour because it has black sand beaches, waterfalls, and glacier views that look perfect for photos and quiet moments together.

I found some nice tours on guidetoIceland and their vacation packages seem like they would make planning way easier since they bundle the hotel, car rental, and guided day trips all in one. Has anyone done a honeymoon there recently and can share what worked well or what you would change? Any hidden romantic spots or ways to make the trip feel extra special without blowing the budget?
