Locksmiths who can do programming & key cutting?

Lost one of my key fobs and ordered a replacement online. The dealership can do reprogramming & cutting for $140. I've called two locksmiths, and both wanted $300 to do it.

I can take it to the dealership, but has anyone used any local locksmiths that do this work for less than the $300?

EDIT: I FOUND MY KEY FOB! But I'm leaving this here in case anyone else can use the info!

Old School, Slow-Living Blog

I'm at www.inherstars.net

I'm a blogger from way, way back. I started out on LiveJournal, and eventually moved to a self-hosted blog in the early 2000s. When social media became a thing, I just quit and--like a lot of other people--kind of gave up on it, defaulting to similar-style posts on Facebook, Instagram, and (for a good stretch, Tumblr.) I liked the social nature of Tumblr and Tumblr, the ability to connected with people of similar interests, but boy am I done with the ads, and the spam, and the scammers asking for donations, and the political vitriol, and AI, and and and...

I've gone back to a self-hosted blog, mostly talking about simple, slow living, "old fashioned" domestic skills, baking, gardening, rescuing cats, and benign existence. No politics, no religion.

Please follow, if you'd like, and if you have a similar blog I'd love to follow you as well!

What areas / communities are best for "retirement cabin" type living?

My husband and I are looking ahead to purchasing a small vacation / summer / weekend cabin (rancher style, or close to it), and want to begin looking at different communities in the Poconos.

We're not looking for big / high-end / all new everything. The ideal property would have enough yard for things like a backyard garden, and maybe inside a community with a few small amenities (but that's negotiable, as we don't want to get caught in HOA hell.) No "lot rent" type properties where we only have access to it for a portion of the year.

It's just the two of us and our cats, so something that we could invest in within the next 5 years and weekend at while we fix it up for a quiet retirement would be ideal. Not interested in renting / AirB&B'ing it or anything like that.

Can you recommend some specific areas or communities that I could plug into a search and keep an eye on?

Babies have hatched!

I posted a few weeks ago about a wild mallard that had set up shop in the planter right outside our front door--thank you to everyone who provided advice!

We did as you recommended and just left her completely alone. She was super tolerant of our comings and goings, and apart from an occasional, "Hi Mama," we just pretended she wasn't there.

There were TWO things we did:

  1. We debated turning off our porch light at night, but after reading that it's a strong deterrent to raccoons and foxes (our neighbors alerted us when they were spied on their outdoor cameras), we decided it might have been one of the reasons she picked her nesting spot, and left it on for her.

  2. I made a broad ring a of cayenne pepper around the nesting site to deter those same predators, and would just refresh it after a rain.

Late last night my husband noticed she was agitated, and this morning our neighbor told us there were babies in the planter! We estimated 9 eggs, and I did take a short video where I'm pretty sure there were 9 babies. I didn't want to stress them out, so I had to be quick.

She and the ducklings are already gone, with no unhatched eggs left behind.

Thank you for your help and guidance!

A couple weeks ago I posted a snapshot of some of the old (most 1930s) recipe books that I'd picked up at a thrift store. I finally got those scanned in (as well as some others I had hanging around), and have made them publicly available.

The books are all linked below. If you'd like access to the Google Drive folder where I drop these, once they're scanned, just let me know and I can message it to you (per Mods, just trying to stay within the rules!)
