Do you mostly: plan everything beforehand, ask locals, wander around, rely on Google Maps/Instagram or just go with the flow? Has that approach made you miss something you wish you'd known about earlier?

Guys, how do you usually decide what to do after reaching a destination?
Do you plan everything in advance or figure it out on the go? What apps, websites or tricks do you use to find good food, local events, hidden gems or offbeat places?
Always looking for better ways to explore. 🙂
Edit1: Thanks guys for sharing your experiences. I am asking this because I usually get limited duration to travel. Mostly 2 night for any city. I don't like to rush to cover main attractions which are mostly suggested on internet.
