ELI5: Modal tunes

I often hear that Old Time music has "modal tunes" in a way that related styles like bluegrass or Irish, do not. What does this mean?

Looking for swashbuckling ensemble adventure movies

I'm looking for movies that have the same vibe as Pirates of the Caribbean, the Mummy, National Treasure, or Jumanji. Big, kinda goofy movies with epic scale, far flung locales, a little bit of supernatural mumbo jumbo. Bonus points if it passes the Bechdel Test. I also don't mind if it's anime.

Pain in left elbow when playing?

I'm learning how to play fiddle as an experienced musician (also play bass and mandolin). I've also had a history of tennis elbow. Whenever I'm playing, I feel a lot of pressure and pain in my elbow when I'm holding down notes, especially on the G and D strings. Is this something other people have dealt with? Is it something that goes away with getting my body habituated to a new instrument, or is this an issue of finding a more ergonomic way to hold the fiddle?

Any value in 1st edition rulebooks?

I was going to my parent's basement recently and found copies of my old rulebooks and miniatures from the original FotR (2001) through Siege of Gondor (2003). I haven't played in decades and it seems like these rulebooks have been superseded several times. I would like these to go to someone who actually wants them, but I have no idea if those would be things people wanted.

Tunes with "goblin energy"?

I've started playing for dances in my community, and many of the dancers have what can be affectionately called "goblin energy" on the dance floor. I want to give them a little treat with a tune set to match that energy (and perhaps enable it), so I'm for suggestions of tunes that might fit.

What's the deal with Hilo?

Several songs (Johnny Come Down to Hilo, Tommy's Gone to Hilo) mention that town. Are they talking about the city on Hawai'i or some place else? What is the significance of it?

What's your experience playing mandolin in styles not generally associated with mandolin?

I started out my mandolin journey mostly playing Irish tunes, but recently I've gotten into old time (where mandolin uncommon but still legible to the style) and also Breton, Quebecois, and New England tunes (where mandolin is no more common than saxophone or something), and I'm wondering about my place in those circles as a mando player.

I don't believe in gatekeeping certain styles of music for certain instruments, and I think that bringing in new instruments and approaches is how we keep these traditional music forms alive. But at the same time, I worry about pigeonholing myself musically by playing something relatively uncommon in a lot of traditions.
